Describing the Non ‐Surgical, Non‐Pharmacological Interventions Offered to Adolescents with Persistent Back Pain in Randomized Trials: A Scoping Review
ConclusionsRandomized trials for adolescents with persistent back pain have primarily relied upon an outdated, biomechanical explanation of persisting pain. Future randomized trials should align with current treatment recommendations and measure outcomes across multiple biopsychosocial domains. (Source: European Journal of Pain)

Family dysfunction is associated with chronic pain in a community ‐dwelling Japanese population: the Hisayama Study
ConclusionsThe family dysfunction level was positively associated with the presence as well as the severity of chronic pain in a community-dwelling population. (Source: European Journal of Pain)

Racial and ethnic differences in the use of lumbar imaging, opioid analgesics and spinal surgery for low back pain: a systematic review and meta ‐analysis
ConclusionThis review reveals lower rate of the use of guideline-discordant care, especially opioid prescription and spinal surgery, in racial/ethnic minority populations with LBP in the United States. Future studies in other countries evaluating care equity for LBP are warranted. (Source: European Journal of Pain)

Human assumed central sensitisation in people with acute non ‐specific low back pain: A cross‐sectional study of the association with brain‐derived neurotrophic factor, clinical, psychological and demographic factors
ConclusionsThis study confirms that HACS is present in some people with acute LBP, but this was not associated with pain or disability. Further, no relationship was observed between BDNF and HACS in acute LBP. More research is needed to understand factors contributing to individual variation in sensory measures in LBP. Effect moderators in internet ‐based exposure therapy for fibromyalgia: The role of pain intensity
ConclusionsResults suggest that internet-based exposure treatment was more useful for participants with lower baseline levels of pain, and less so for participants with higher baseline levels of pain. The treatment had relatively similar effects across the other tested moderators. (Source: European Journal of Pain)

Oral capsules of tetra ‐hydro‐cannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD) and their combination in peripheral neuropathic pain treatment
ConclusionsCBD, THC and their combination did not relieve peripheral neuropathic pain in patients failing at least one previous evidence-based treatment for neuropathic pain. (Source: European Journal of Pain)

Accumulation of long ‐term diseases are associated with musculoskeletal pain dimensions among middle‐aged individuals with musculoskeletal pain
ConclusionThere is a need for better understanding of the relationships between accumulated long-term diseases and MSK pain.SignificanceThis study on middle-aged individuals with musculoskeletal pain showed that the presence of long-term diseases was clearly associated with pain frequency, bothersomeness of pain, pain intensity, and number of pain sites. Compared with no long-term diseases, the association between accumulated (two or more) long-term diseases and pain dimensions were stronger than the association between one long-term disease and pain dimensions. How does pain work? A qualitative analysis of how young adults with chronic pain conceptualise the biology of pain
ConclusionThese conceptualisations, and the language used by young adults with childhood-onset chronic pain to describe them are discussed. Recommendations are provided for how pain science education interventions can be tailored for young adults. (Source: European Journal of Pain)

Biological and psychological early prognostic factors in complex regional pain syndrome: A systematic review
ConclusionsThis study showed an important lack of information on early prognostic factors in CRPS. Only one article investigated the link with psychological characteristics. There is a crucial need of larger studies, with well-defined population using validated measures. (Source: European Journal of Pain)

The contribution of psychological flexibility to functioning in people living with cancer ‐related pain
ConclusionConsistent with studies of non-cancer-related pain, higher levels of PF were strongly associated with lower levels of distress and better functioning in individuals with cancer-related pain. Further studies are needed to further explore these relationships and to determine whether psychosocial treatments targeting PF may be of benefit to people with chronic cancer-related pain.
