Current Update on New Delhi Metallo- β-lactamase (NDM) Variants: New Challenges in the Journey of Evolution
Curr Protein Pept Sci. 2023 Aug 16. doi: 10.2174/1389203724666230816154117. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNew Delhi Metallo-β-lactamase is an enzyme produced by gram-negative bacteria which has become one of the global concerns for physicians to treating the infection. These Metallo-β-lactamase are capable of catalyzing the hydrolysis of almost all β-lactam antibiotics, endangering infection treatment. Substitution of single or multiple amino acids results in new NDM variants. Forty NDM variants have been identified in different bacterial strains across the globe. In this review, we focused on the structural insight of ...

Prognostic Role of Unfolded Protein Response-Related Genes in Hepatocellular Carcinoma
CONCLUSION: This study identified two UPR molecular subtypes of HCC and developed a ten-gene HCC prognostic signature model (EXTL3, PPP2R5B, ZBTB17, CCT3, CCT4, CCT5, GRPEL2, HSP90AA1, PDRG1, and STC2), which can robustly forecast the progression of HCC.PMID:37587817 | DOI:10.2174/1389203724666230816090504 (Source: Current Protein and Peptide Science)

ACE2 receptor: a potential pharmacological target in COVID-19
Curr Protein Pept Sci. 2023 Aug 16. doi: 10.2174/1389203724666230816092518. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStudies have shown that injection of recombinant angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) significantly increased circulatory levels of ACE2 activity, reduced cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis, and effectively lowered blood pressure. In addition, recombinant ACE2 ameliorated albuminuria and might contribute to renal protection. Meanwhile, potential pharmacological treatments based on ACE2 are attracting increasing attention from scientists following a growing understanding of the role of the ACE2 receptor in the pathogene...

Reduced Level of Prolylhydroxyproline in the Nail Clippings Oral Cancer Patients and its Role as an Activator of Phospholipase C- β2
CONCLUSION: This study is one of the first reports on Pro-Hyp as a metabolite biomarker in the nails of oral cancer patients. Furthermore, the implications of Pro-Hyp are proposed to activate PLC-β2 as a pro-tumor signaling cascade. In the future, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches may be explored as biomarkers and mimetic of Pro-Hyp.PMID:37565551 | DOI:10.2174/1389203724666230810094615 (Source: Current Protein and Peptide Science)
