Exploring the feasibility of cryopreserving larvae of the common cockle (Cerastoderma edule) for hatchery production
Cryobiology. 2023 Aug 30:104582. doi: 10.1016/j.cryobiol.2023.104582. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe decline of natural populations of the common cockle (Cerastoderma edule) through the European coast is posing a threat to local small-scale fisheries. These declines are primarily attributed to the prevalence of several pathogens and the disseminated neoplasia in cockle populations. The institution of a biobank of cryopreserved larvae could enhance hatchery production and help the restocking. The present work aimed at the development of a cryopreservation protocol for larvae of the common cockle using the mollusk cryopre...

Equilibration time improves the sperm variables of wild ruminant ejaculated and epididymal sperm cryopreserved by ultra-rapid freezing
In conclusion, equilibration prior to ultra-rapid freezing improves the cryoresistance of sperm cells, although viable sperm cells can be obtained without equilibration. The epididymal sperm showed greater cryoresistance, supporting the idea that it is more resistant to freeze-thawing than ejaculated sperm.PMID:37633480 | DOI:10.1016/j.cryobiol.2023.104579 (Source: Cryobiology)

Observation on the ice crystal formation process of large yellow croaker (Pseudosciaena crocea) and the effect of multiple cryoprotectants pre-soaking treatments on frozen quality
Cryobiology. 2023 Aug 23;113:104580. doi: 10.1016/j.cryobiol.2023.104580. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBy observing the formation behavior of ice crystals, the quality of food products under different freezing conditions can be intuitively judged. In this paper, large yellow croaker was taken as the research object, and a novel cryomicroscopic system was developed to directly observe the structure of ice crystals during the freezing process. The cryoprotective effects of 4% sucrose +4% sorbitol (SU + SO), 4% xylo-oligosaccharide (XO), 4% xylo-oligosaccharide + 0.3% tetrasodium pyrophosphate (XO + TSPP) and 0.2% antifreeze...

Effects of spray cryotherapy on cough receptors and airway microenvironment in a canine model of chronic bronchitis
We examined the expression of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1/4 (TRPV1/4) and the neuropeptides substance P (SP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) at the gene and protein levels before and after SCT. In addition, we explored whether TRPV1/4 could regulate inflammatory factors via mediator adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The levels of ATP and cytokines in alveolar lavage fluid and cell supernatant were measured using ELISA. SCT effectively downregulated the expression of TRPV1/4 and SP/CGRP in canine airway tissues with chronic bronchitis and reduced the levels of inflammatory mediators and cytokines that af...
