Partial-body cryostimulation does not impact peripheral microvascular responsiveness but reduces muscular metabolic O < sub > 2 < /sub > consumption (mV ˙O < sub > 2 < /sub > ) at rest
This study aimed to investigate the effect of partial-body cryostimulation (PBC) on microvascular responsiveness and muscular metabolic O2 consumption rate (m V˙ O2). Twenty healthy young adults (ten males and ten females) underwent post-occlusive reactive hyperaemia (PORH) test at the flexor digitorum superficialis area before and after a 3-min PBC session and a 3-min control session. Using near-infrared spectroscopy, occlusion and reperfusion slopes were calculated: oxyhemoglobin ([HbO2]) decrease rate ([HbO2] slope 1), deoxyhaemoglobin ([HHb]) increase rate ([HHb] slope 1), [HbO2] increase rate ([HbO2] slope 2), and [H...

Cryoablation is superior to radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer: A meta-analysis
Cryobiology. 2023 Jul 25:104560. doi: 10.1016/j.cryobiol.2023.104560. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis meta-analytical study compared the efficacy of cryoablation and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We searched PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, and Web of Science™ for all relevant articles published until April 2022 that compared the efficacy of RFA and cryoablation in treating NSCLC. We used the Cochrane evaluation tool to assess the risk of bias. The fixed- or random-effects models were used, when appropriate. The primary outcome was a 3-year disease-free survival, whereas recurr...

Cryopreservation of herbaceous Asteraceae seeds: Effects of seed reserves on seed germination and seedling regrowth
In this study, the seed of 16 Asteraceae herbaceous ornamentals were used to compare the changes in seed germination, seedling growth indexes and four major storage reserves of seeds before and after cryopreservation. After cryopreservation, seed germination and seedling growth were preserved in most species (11/16), while one species showed significantly improved post-thaw germination and four had decreased germination. In seeds with preserved germination, no clear variation was noted with regards to the four kinds of storage reserves, or only a slight change in one. However, significantly reduced soluble protein, soluble...
