Statins Do Not Significantly Affect Oxidative Nitrosative Stress Biomarkers in the PREVENT Randomized Clinical Trial
Conclusions: Atorvastatin demonstrated very modest effects on oxidative/nitrosative stress biomarkers in this low cardiovascular risk population. Our findings provide potential mechanistic insight into the lack of effect of atorvastatin on LVEF in the PREVENT trial.PMID:38573708 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-3952 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Treatment Outcomes of Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy on Extra-cranial Oligometastatic and Oligoprogressive Breast Cancer: Mature Results from a Single Institution Experience
CONCLUSION: There are limited studies published on the efficacy and post-treatment toxicities of metastatic breast cancer OM and OP SABR with adequate length of follow-up. This study confirmed that SABR was a safe, non-invasive treatment option for patients with extracranial OM and OP diseases originated from primary breast cancer in terms of the acceptable post-treatment toxicities.PMID:38575431 | DOI:10.1016/j.clon.2024.03.012 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Clinical and radiomics integrated nomogram for preoperative prediction of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in patients with triple-negative breast cancer
CONCLUSION: The Clin+RS integrated model, incorporating posterior echo and Rad-score, demonstrated an acceptable preoperative evaluation of the TIL level. The Clin+RS integrated nomogram holds tremendous potential for preoperative individualized prediction of the TIL level in TNBC.PMID:38567151 | PMC:PMC10985173 | DOI:10.3389/fonc.2024.1370466 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Validating Risk Prediction Models for Multiple Primaries and Competing Cancer Outcomes in Families With Li-Fraumeni Syndrome Using Clinically Ascertained Data
CONCLUSION: We describe a study that fills in the critical gap in knowledge for the utility of risk prediction models. Using a CCB cohort, our previously validated models have demonstrated good performance and outperformed the standard clinical criteria. Our study suggests that better risk counseling may be achieved by GCs using these already-developed mathematical models.PMID:38569124 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.23.01926 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Breast Cancer Screening Recommendations for Transgender Patients: A Review
Mayo Clin Proc. 2024 Apr;99(4):630-639. doi: 10.1016/j.mayocp.2023.12.006.ABSTRACTShifting societal attitudes trending toward increased acceptance of transgender people has contributed to a growth in the population of individuals who openly identify as transgender as well as an increase in utilization of gender-affirming surgeries. Therefore, health care providers should work toward increasing their knowledge with respect to the health care needs of the transgender population, particularly given that these individuals often face discrimination in the health care system. Moreover, transgender breast cancer screening rates l...

Systematic review and meta-analysis of prognostic characteristics for breast cancers in populations with digital versus film mammography indicate the transition may have increased both early detection and overdiagnosis
CONCLUSION: The increased detection of all grades of DCIS and invasive cancer may indicate both increased early detection of more aggressive disease and increased overdiagnosis.FUNDING: Australian National Health and Medical Research Council and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.REGISTRATION: PROSPERO 2017:CRD42017070601.PMID:38570078 | DOI:10.1016/j.jclinepi.2024.111339 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Prognostic impact of metabolic syndrome in patients with primary endometrial cancer: a retrospective bicentric study
CONCLUSION: In our analysis, MetS in patients with EC was not associated with impaired oncological outcome. However, our findings show that obesity itself is an important comorbidity associated with significantly reduced PFS.PMID:38570343 | PMC:PMC10991018 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-024-05699-1 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Nucleosome reorganisation in breast cancer tissues
CONCLUSIONS: Our study offers a novel resource of high-resolution nucleosome maps in breast cancer patients and reports for the first time the effect of systematic decrease of NRL in paired tumour versus normal breast tissues from the same patient. Our findings provide a new mechanistic understanding of nucleosome repositioning in tumour tissues that can be valuable for patient diagnostics, stratification and monitoring.PMID:38561804 | PMC:PMC10986098 | DOI:10.1186/s13148-024-01656-4 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

The prognosis of patients treated with everolimus for advanced ER-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer is driven by molecular features
J Pathol Clin Res. 2024 May;10(3):e12372. doi: 10.1002/2056-4538.12372.ABSTRACTEverolimus is widely used in patients with advanced ER-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. We looked at alterations in the PIK3CA/AKT/mTOR pathway in a multicenter cohort as potential biomarkers of efficacy. Patients with advanced ER-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer treated with everolimus and endocrine therapy between 2012 and 2014 in two cancer centers were included. Targeted sequencing examined mutations in PIK3CA, ESR1, and AKT1 genes. An immunochemical analysis was conducted to evaluate expression of PTEN, INPP4B, STK11, p4EBP1, and...

The VEGF-Hypoxia Signature is Upregulated in Basal like Breast Tumors from Women of African Ancestry and Associated with Poor Outcomes in Breast Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: These data provide further evidence for breast cancer heterogeneity across diverse populations and molecular subtypes. Interventions selectively targeting VEGF-hypoxia and the immune microenvironment have the potential to improve overall survival in aggressive breast cancers that disproportionately impact Black women in the African Diaspora.PMID:38564595 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1526 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)
