Short-Term Effects Of Dry Heat Treatment (Fluidotherapy) In The Management Of Breast Cancer Related Lymphedema: A Randomized Controlled Study
CONCLUSION: Fluidotherapy added to CDT reduced pain and edema severity more than standard CDT in the patients with BCRL. As a noninvasive, novel, and effective method, fluidotherapy may be a promising treatment modality for the treatment of lymphedema.PMID:38565462 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2024.02.019 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Oncolytic adenovirus encoding apolipoprotein A1 suppresses metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer in mice
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a promising oncolytic virus treatment strategy for TNBC based on targeting dysregulated cholesterol metabolism. It also establishes a basis for subsequent clinical trials of ADV-ApoA1 in the treatment of TNBC.PMID:38566092 | DOI:10.1186/s13046-024-03011-0 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Nucleosome reorganisation in breast cancer tissues
CONCLUSIONS: Our study offers a novel resource of high-resolution nucleosome maps in breast cancer patients and reports for the first time the effect of systematic decrease of NRL in paired tumour versus normal breast tissues from the same patient. Our findings provide a new mechanistic understanding of nucleosome repositioning in tumour tissues that can be valuable for patient diagnostics, stratification and monitoring.PMID:38561804 | DOI:10.1186/s13148-024-01656-4 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Surviving without BRCA2: MLH1 gets R-looped in to curtail genomic instability
J Clin Invest. 2024 Apr 1;134(7):e179325. doi: 10.1172/JCI179325.ABSTRACTWhile breast cancer 2 (BRCA2) loss of heterozygosity (LOH) promotes cancer initiation, it can also induce death in nontransformed cells. In contrast, mismatch repair gene mutL homolog 1 (MLH1) is a tumor-suppressor gene that protects cells from cancer development through repairing mismatched base pairs during DNA mismatch repair (MMR). Sengodan et al., in this issue of the JCI, reveal an interplay between the 2 genes: MLH1 promoted the survival of BRCA2-deficient cells independently of its MMR function. MLH1 protected replication forks from degradatio...

Exposure to psychotropic drugs and breast cancer risk in patients with bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder: a nested case-control study
This study aimed to assess such risk among women with major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD). A nested case-control study design was used with data obtained from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. Logistic regression analysis with adjustments for demographic characteristics, medical and mental comorbidities, and all-cause clinical visits was performed to estimate the risk of breast cancer according to the cumulative defined daily dose (cDDD) of psychotropic drugs. The study included 1564 women with MDD or BD who had breast cancer, and 15,540 women with MDD or BD who did not have brea...

Combination of DCE-MRI and NME-DWI via Deep Neural Network for Predicting Breast Cancer Molecular Subtypes
CONCLUSION: The combination of DCE-MRI and NME-DWI via DNN achieved a significant improvement in breast cancer molecular subtype prediction compared to either imaging technique used alone. Additionally, DCE-MRI outperformed NME-DWI in differentiating subtypes.PMID:38555225 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2024.03.006 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Transcriptomic characterization of the histopathological growth patterns in breast cancer liver metastases
Clin Exp Metastasis. 2024 Mar 29. doi: 10.1007/s10585-024-10279-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetastatic breast cancer (mBC) remains incurable and liver metastases (LM) are observed in approximately 50% of all patients with mBC. In some cases, surgical resection of breast cancer liver metastases (BCLM) is associated with prolonged survival. However, there are currently no validated marker to identify these patients. The interactions between the metastatic cancer cells and the liver microenvironment result in two main histopathological growth patterns (HGP): replacement (r-HGP), characterized by a direct contact between ...

Combination of radiotherapy and flap reconstruction for cancer treatments (Review)
Mol Clin Oncol. 2024 Mar 7;20(5):34. doi: 10.3892/mco.2024.2732. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTFlaps are commonly used to repair large tissue defects caused by tumor resection and are often combined with radiotherapy. Relevant explanations for the mechanism underlying the effect of radiotherapy on flaps and the selection of the sequence of flaps and radiotherapy plan have emerged. The combination of flap and radiotherapy is most widely used in breast, head and neck cancers, while free flaps are the most widely used. Although, reduction of the incidence of complications of flap reconstruction, prevention of flap reconstructi...

Pure mucinous adenocarcinoma of the breast with the rare lymphoplasmacytic infiltration: A case report with review of literature
We present the case of a 55-year-old female with a 15-year history of a painless, gradually enlarging palpable lump on her left breast. Upon examination, a 5 × 5 cm lump with well-defined margins and a hard consistency was found in the lower outer quadrant of the left breast. Histopathological examination confirmed a diagnosis of Mucinous Adenocarcinoma of the Left Breast. The patient underwent modified radical mastectomy and received adjuvant endocrine therapy with tamoxifen due to hormone receptor-positive status. Mucinous carcinoma of the breast is a unique entity with specific histological features including the prese...
