Identification and validation of the optimal reference genes for standardizing the gene expression profiling diagnostic panel of Ph-like B-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia
AbstractGene expression profiling is the criterion standard for recognizing Ph-like ALL signatures among B-ALLs. The prerequisite of GEP is the accurate normalization of target genes with stable expression of housekeeping genes in a quantitative PCR. HKGs exhibit differential expression in the different experimental conditions and affect the target genes' expression, leading to imprecise qPCR results. The selection of stable HKGs is crucial in GEP experiments, especially in identifying high-risk Ph-like ALL cases. We have evaluated the expression stability of nine HKGs (GAPDH, ACTB, GUSB, RNA18S, EEF2, PGK1, B2M, TBP andAB...

Role of long pentraxin PTX3 in cancer
AbstractCancer has become a leading cause of death and disease burden worldwide, closely related to rapid socioeconomic development. However, the fundamental reason is the lack of comprehensive understanding of the mechanism of cancer, accurate identification of preclinical cancer, and effective treatment of the disease. Therefore, it is particularly urgent to study specific mechanisms of cancer and develop effective prediction and treatment methods. Long Pentraxin PTX3 is a soluble pattern recognition molecule produced by various cells in inflammatory sites, which plays a role as a promoter or suppressor of cancer in mult...

Clinical characteristics, diagnosis and management of Sweet syndrome induced by azathioprine
AbstractSweet syndrome is a rare complication of azathioprine treatment with unelucidated clinical features. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of azathioprine-induced Sweet syndrome (AISS) and provide a reference for diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. We collected relevant case reports of AISS by searching Chinese and English databases from 1960 to December 31, 2022, extracted the data and carried out a retrospective analysis. The median age of the 44 patients was 50 (range 9 –89) years, and they included 32 males (72.7%). Fever (86.4%) and arthralgia (31.8%) were the most common ...

Sex disparities in clinicopathological features and outcomes of patients with myeloperoxidase-ANCA-associated vasculitis: a retrospective study of 366 cases in a single Chinese center
This study found that male patients with MPO-AAV had a higher age of onset, shorter duration of disease, higher levels of hemoglobin, eosinophil count, proteinuria, serum C4, and lower levels of serum globulin, serum IgG and serum IgM. Male patients fared worse than female patients in terms of the composite outcome of renal and patient survival. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Medicine)

Characterizing dry mass and volume changes in human multiple myeloma cells upon treatment with proteotoxic and genotoxic drugs
AbstractMultiple myeloma (MM) is a cancer of terminally differentiated plasma cells. MM remains incurable, but overall survival of patients has progressively increased over the past two decades largely due to novel agents such as proteasome inhibitors (PI) and the immunomodulatory agents. While these therapies are highly effective, MM patients can be de novo resistant and acquired resistance with prolonged treatment is inevitable. There is growing interest in early, accurate identification of responsive versus non-responsive patients; however, limited sample availability and need for rapid assays are limiting factors. Here...

Autoimmune liver disease and multiple sclerosis: state of the art and future perspectives
AbstractClinical observations suggest that the prevalence of autoimmune diseases is changing over time. Both autoimmune liver diseases and multiple sclerosis have shown a significant increase in the last decades. Although the coexistence of autoimmune diseases within individuals and families is a common phenomenon, the extent to which liver disease and multiple sclerosis co-occur is not clear. Case reports and few studies have reported the possible coexistence of multiple sclerosis with thyroid diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis. It is unknown whether there is a definite association b...
