Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair in Patients with Heart Failure: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: Evidence from pooled analysis suggests that transcatheter mitral valve repair using MitraClip on top of medical therapy, in appropriately selected symptomatic heart failure patients with significant secondary MR, provides survival benefit and may decrease hospitalizations when compared with guideline-directed medical therapy alone.Cardiology (Source: Cardiology)

Assessing the Performance of a Novel Point-of-Care Qualitative Assay for Early Diagnosis of Acute Coronary Syndrome
Conclusions: Upon first medical contact, the novel point-of-care rapid SensAheart assay shows a diagnostic performance similar to hs-cTnT. The combination of 2 cardiac biomarkers in the same kit allows for very early detection of myocardial damage. The SensAheart assay is a reliable and practical tool for ruling-in the diagnosis of ACS.Cardiology (Source: Cardiology)

Clinical Presentation, Diagnosis, and Management of Idiopathic Enlargement of the Right Atrium: An Analysis Based on Systematic Review of 153 Reported Cases
In conclusion, IERA, although rare, tends to be associated with potential life-threatening complications and sudden cardiac death. Echocardiography is the most common diagnostic modality. Surgical resection is indicated for symptomatic patients.Cardiology (Source: Cardiology)

Relation between Accumulated Air Pollution Exposure and Sub-Clinical Cardiovascular Disease in 33,723 Danish 60 –74-Year-Old Males from the Background Population (AIR-CARD): A Method Article
Cardiovascular disease is one of the main causes of death and disability in the Western world, and there is increasing evidence that air pollution is a risk factor for developing sub-clinical cardiovascular diseases. Previous studies have shown a correlation between cardiovascular disease and short-term exposure to elevated air pollution levels. However, the literature on the impact of long-term effect of air pollution is limited. We have a unique opportunity to evaluate this correlation. The DEHM/UBM/AirGIS model system calculates air pollution in a high temporal and spatial resolution and traces air pollution retrospecti...

Clinical Significance of Guanylate Cyclase Stimulator, Riociguat, on Right Ventricular Functional Improvement in Patients with Pulmonary Hypertension
Conclusions: Riociguat not only improved the hemodynamics of patients with PH but also ameliorated the echocardiographic parameters with RV function. RV strain could detect the subtle improvement in mild PH, and riociguat may have a benefit even after intervention, as assessed by speckle-tracking echocardiography.Cardiology (Source: Cardiology)

The Late Effects of Pregnancy on Aortic Dimensions in Patients with Marfan Syndrome
While the immediate effects of pregnancy on aortic dimension in patients with Marfan syndrome (MFS) have been evaluated, the late effects of subsequent pregnancies in these patients are less known. For this purpose, we evaluated 2 groups of women with MFS who were under specialized care in our institution. Group A included 23 women with MFS who experienced 55 pregnancies; group B included 12 nulliparous MFS patients. Patients in group A were similar in age (36.13 ± 5.6 years vs. 34.25 ± 6.54 years,p = 0.41) and follow-up time (group A 6.05 ± 3.56 years and group B 4.92 ± 3.37 years,p = 0.37). Baseline aortic root diame...

The Degree of the Predischarge Pulmonary Congestion in Patients Hospitalized for Worsening Heart Failure Predicts Readmission and Mortality
Conclusion: The degree of predischarge PC assessed by ∆LIR is the most dominant predictor of TTR and TTD.Cardiology (Source: Cardiology)

Effect of Combined Statin and Antihypertensive Therapy in Patients with Hypertension: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: These findings suggested that combined statin and antihypertensive therapy was associated with more cardiovascular benefits compared with antihypertensive therapy alone.Cardiology (Source: Cardiology)

Prognostic Impact of the Pulmonary Artery Pulsatility Index in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure and Severe Mitral Regurgitation Undergoing Percutaneous Edge-to-Edge Repair
Conclusions: PAPi is strongly associated with clinical outcome among patients with CHF and functional MR undergoing TMVR. A PAPi value ≤2.46 predicts a worse prognosis independent of other important clinical, echocardiographic, and hemodynamic factors. Therefore, PAPi may serve as a new parameter to improve patient selection for TMVR.Cardiology (Source: Cardiology)
