Unstable Angina as a Component of Primary Composite Endpoints in Clinical Cardiovascular Trials: Pros and Cons
Background Unstable angina (UA) is a component of acute coronary syndrome that is only occasionally included in primary composite endpoints in clinical cardiovascular trials. The aim of this paper is to elucidate the potential benefits and disadvantages of including UA in such contexts. Summary UA comprises (Source: Cardiology)

Coronary Artery Revascularization in Heart Transplant Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Background: Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) is the primary cause of late mortality after heart transplantation (HTx). We look to provide a comprehensive review of contemporary revascularization strategies in CAV. Methods: PubMed and Web of Science were systematically searched by 3 authors. 1,870 articles were initially screened and 24 were included in this review. Results: PCI is the main revascularization technique utilized in CAV. The pooled estimates for restenosis significantly favored DES over BMS ( OR 4.26; 95% CI, 2.54-7.13; p (Source: Cardiology)

A review of new-onset ventricular arrhythmia after left ventricular assist device implantation
This study provides a reference for the clinical application of LAVD and the prevention of postoperative VA after LVAD implantation. Future multicenter prospective studies with uniform patient follow-up are needed to screen for additional potential risk factors and predi ctors. These studies will help to define the incidence rate of VA after LAVD implantation. As a result, we provide guidance for the selection of preventive intervention (Source: Cardiology)

Comparison between Amplatzer and Watchman left atrial appendage closure devices for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation :a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction: The Amplatzer and Watchman left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) devices are the two most frequently used devices for left atrial appendage closure devices worldwide. This meta-analysis aims to compare the safety and efficacy of the two devices. Methods: We searched the PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library for studies up to 6 February 2022 that compared the safety and efficacy of the Amplatzer and Watchman devices. Results: Fifteen studies including 2,150 patients in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 2,526 patients in observational studies were included in the meta-analysis. Amplatzer device was assoc...

Sex-Related Differences in Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: A trend has emerged in heart valve interventions with males tending to have improved outcomes after surgical intervention and females experiencing equivalent or improved outcomes after transcatheter interventions. This meta-analysis identified increased rates of acute kidney injury for males, increased rates of major bleeding for females, and otherwise comparable morbidity and mortality in males and females undergoing TMVr. Sex Related Differences in Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Objective: Inequalities in postoperative outcomes between males and females are well described with females often experiencing inferior outcomes after heart valve surgery. Recent literature has demonstrated equivalent or improved outcomes for females after transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) and replacement (TMVR) is a relatively newer field with significantly less literature comparing sex differences. This systematic review and meta-analysis looks to provide a comprehensive summary of the published literature comparing outcomes between males and females undergoing transcatheter...

Outcomes of Patients Undergoing PCI of Ostial Coronary Lesions: A Single-Center Study
Conclusion: In patients undergoing PCI with the use of contemporary DES, clinical outcomes were similar among patients treated for ostial compared to proximal nonostial lesions. Larger studies are required to further evaluate the performance of contemporary DES in this subset of lesions.Cardiology (Source: Cardiology)

Sudden cardiac death, not what you thought
Sudden cardiac death (SCD) in the young person, although rare, is a dramatic and devastating event. The annual incidence of SCD in young persons (up to 35 years old) was reported to be 1.3 to 2.28 per 100,000. When older (up to 49 years old) SCD victims were included, the annual incidence was reported to be as high as 8.8 per 100,000, because of the much higher incidence (38.5 per 100,000) in the 40-49 age group (Source: Cardiology)
