Noninfectious Outcomes of Intravitreal Antibiotic Steroid Injection and Topical Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs Versus Triple Drop Therapy After Cataract Surgery
Surgeons routinely use topical medications for chemoprophylaxis against postoperative infection and inflammation in modern cataract surgery practice. While regimens vary among surgeons, a commonly used regimen involves the administration of topical antibiotics, corticosteroids, and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) ( “triple-drop therapy” [TDT]) over several weeks. Intraindividual Comparison Of An Enhanced Monofocal And An Aspheric Monofocal Intraocular Lens Of The Same Platform
In cataract surgery, the most commonly intraocular lens (IOL) used is a monofocal optic to produce one single focus point on the retina, typically for far-distance vision, followed by spectacle correction for near or intermediate distances. Monofocal IOLs are widely used and exhibit low rates of adverse photic phenomena.1 In contrast to monofocal IOLs, multifocal IOLs are designed to achieve two or three focal points, enhancing unaided vision at various distances, using a bifocal or trifocal optic respectively. Gender Representation Among Ophthalmology Fellowship Directors in 2022
Significant improvements have been made to reduce gender disparities in medicine. For the first time in 2019, the proportion of U.S. medical students who identified as women reached a majority at 50.5%.1 However, gender disparities still persist among practicing physicians, especially in academic leadership positions.2 This remains true for many surgical subspecialties,3-5 including Ophthalmology, which was estimated to be 27% women in 2016.6 Within Ophthalmology, women are underrepresented in as department Chairs and professional society board members. Application of a deep learning system to detect papilledema on nonmydriatic ocular fundus photographs in an emergency department
Detection of ocular fundus abnormalities, including even those limited to the optic nerve head, remains very challenging for non-eye care providers, the vast majority of whom are not comfortable with direct ophthalmoscopy, especially through a non-dilated pupil.1-6 Pathology of the optic nerve, in particular papilledema (optic disc edema specifically secondary to intracranial hypertension), often reflects an underlying sight- or life-threatening disorder which will likely be missed without ocular fundus examination.
