Inventory of Ocular Pulse Amplitude values in healthy subjects and patients with ophthalmologic illnesses: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Many studies have examined the ocular pulse amplitude (OPA) to better understand its physiology and clinical relevance, but the papers are scattered, not consistently indexed, and sometimes difficult to locate. We aimed to identify and summarize the relevant published evidence on OPA and, in a meta-analysis, outline specific differences of this parameter between healthy individual, primary open-angle glaucoma, normal-tension glaucoma, ocular hypertension and cataract patients. Prevalence and Associations of Peripheral Arterial Disease in China: The Beijing Eye Study
PURPOSE: To explore the prevalence and associations of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in China.DESIGN: Population-based incidence estimate and cross-sectional study.METHODS: The participants (n=3468) of the Beijing Eye Study underwent a detailed ophthalmologic and systemic examination including assessment of the ankle-brachial index (ABI). PAD was defined by an ABI of less than 0.9.RESULTS: Blood pressure measurements of both arms and ankles were available for 1078 (31.1%) individuals. An ABI (mean: 1.09 ±0.11; median: 1.10; range: 0.25, 1.36) of (Source: American Journal of Ophthalmology)

Comment on: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Systemic Antihypertensive Medications with Intraocular Pressure and Glaucoma
I read with interest the meta-analysis by Leung et al. regarding the association of various classes of anti-hypertensive medications with glaucoma.1 This analysis demonstrates the heterogeneity of the results obtained by previous studies. It is worth noting that none of the analyzed studies controlled for race, although the racial distribution of study participants was either not presented or not known for most of the studies. This is significant as there is the potential for spurious results if the possible effects of race are not controlled for in studies involving multi-racial populations. Comment on: Salary Negotiations: Gender Differences in Attitudes, Priorities, and Behaviors of Ophthalmologists
In their cross-sectional study, Sood and colleagues1 describe gender differences in the attitudes, behaviors, and priorities surrounding salary negotiation for ophthalmologists negotiating for their first position as a practicing physician. The authors administered a 20-question Qualtrics survey that was disseminated by residency program directors and through social media. The data presented from more than 400 respondents provides insight into subtle differences in the negotiation experience between male and female ophthalmologists.
