Significant improvements have been made to reduce gender disparities in medicine. For the first time in 2019, the proportion of U.S. medical students who identified as women reached a majority at 50.5%.1 However, gender disparities still persist among practicing physicians, especially in academic leadership positions.2 This remains true for many surgical subspecialties,3-5 including Ophthalmology, which was estimated to be 27% women in 2016.6 Within Ophthalmology, women are underrepresented in as department Chairs and professional society board members.
