Hello, I am a non engineering major but have experience working in a public health/clinical lab setting, handling various lab machinery. I also have a minor in mathematics if that helps. Questions regarding HPSP and Residency
Hello everyone! I am an incoming dental student and had just received a call from my army recruiter regarding my acceptance into the four-year program. Super thrilled at the moment. I would like to know what will happen going forward and what to expect if I want to do a residency after graduating from dental school (Public health or OMFS). I am also processing with the Navy but have yet to hear from them. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pursuing a masters while in dental school
The prospect of pursuing either a masters in law or masters in public health dual degree while in dental school has come up in my mind, and I was wondering if anyone who has done something similar can chime in? I like the idea of specializing and, knowing I would already have to put in the extra time for good grades, am worried that pursuing a dual degree could negatively effect this. Additionally, the dual degree would be no added cost in tuition or cost of attendance. Thanks in advance... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Would this Americorps position be considered non-clinical or clinical volunteering?
Today, I had an interveiw for an Americorps position. They have VISTA positions and Public Health AmeriCorps positions. It is a network of free clinics. The site director said that the VISTA is not clinical at all but the Public Health Corps would involve more clinical stuff. My interview with a site director/supervisor today went well. I have an interview with the boss's boss next week. They said the Public Heath position would have a clinical component but both the Public Health and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I avoid non-surgical research if I'm interested in a surgical specialty?
I have had several research projects fall into my lap with varying degrees of time investment. The problem is most of them are in fields like medical humanities and public health, which I enjoy and even got some summer research funding to conduct a scoping review, but I am ultimately interested in pursuing a surgical subspecialty. I'm wondering if I should just cut off these non-surgical projects early and focus my efforts on finding surgical research (which is not impossible but hasn't come... WAMC: cGPA 3.77 sGPA 3.54 but no upward trend
Hello everyone, I hope y'all are doing well. I am a senior Public Health major applying for med school EY 2024. I wanted see if anyone has some insight to offer regarding my chances for admission into Texas Medical Schools. I am a resident of Texas. Some background: I entered college as a Biology major and found the major too science heavy and not interesting. I then switched to Public Health the beginning of my sophomore year and decided to take a break in my pre-medical journey to look... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Value-Based Care, Population Health, Mid-Level Encroachment--Should We Stop Seeing So Many Patients?
So here we are. It's 2023. Healthcare is way too expensive, mid-levels are being heavily deployed as an attempt at cost containment. Hospital systems are moving towards "value-based care" and "population health," i.e. a focus on outcomes and prevention vs. fee-for-service. We have an enormous projected shortage of psychiatrists. And as a nice cherry on top, medical intervention itself tends to be a hugely unproductive method of decreasing mortality. A lot of the public health data is...
