WAMC, Non Traditional Grad Student - Guidance appreciated:)
Hi all - I am a somewhat non-traditional 23-year-old student from AZ with a strong educational background in public health. I will be finishing my MPH next spring and would love some feedback on how things are looking for me. I was a Division I athlete through undergrad and sustained a pretty serious injury junior year, so I have one VERY bad semester (All D's and W's) on my transcripts that heavily weigh on my culm/science GPAs. I love public health and do intend on working in that field... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I moved to New Zealand AMA
A year ago I moved with my young family to New Zealand and started working in the public health system here. Our reasons were a mix of wanting an adventure, better work life balance, and a healthier environment for our child. There have been ups and downs but in general we have loved it, and plan to stay. I’ve seen posts of people asking about overseas options, so I’d be happy to provide my perspective to anyone interested. My department also has a few vacancies so…some shameless recruiting. WAMC/Help with School list: Non-trad reapplicant
This year was my second attempt at applying. I received 3 II and am waitlisted at 2 and R from one. I am deep enough on the waitlist that it is extremely unlikely I will be accepted so I’m preparing for a third attempt. I’m a nontraditional career changer from within healthcare. Any advice would be helpful. GPAs Undergrad (Public Health): cGPA 2.94, sGPA 3.13 (I know this is my big limiting factor but there were personal and family issues for context) Graduate... The continuing confusion caused by comparing numbers of Covid-19 cases and crude rates internationally reflect a failure of public health sciences. Age and sex-specific rates have primacy.

UC Davis vs Keck-USC
I'm really REALLY stuck between UC Davis and Keck-USC. For context, I'm a CA resident, non-trad/first-gen with a background in public health. I'm really interested in community medicine. As of now, I'm hoping to go into OB-GYN. UC Davis: Pros Close/Very Cheap/Convenient - received a half-off scholarship Emphasis on Primary Care / Community work LOTS of opportunities for meaningful work in the community (great student run clinics) Good match list - mostly CA Seems to... Choosing between activities
Hey y'all, I am applying this upcoming 2023-2024 cycle and was kind of hung up on deciding between two activities and which one I should put on my AMCAS app. 1. Without revealing too much, I was part of a living-learning community during one academic year, during which we traveled to a few cities to learn about public health and also did a capstone project as a group. I feel like the individual contributions weren't anything much, but I did have to apply/interview to get into it. Our... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Vanderbilt vs Northwestern
hii, posting for my friend she doesn't have an account! all thoughts are welcome! Vanderbilt: Full Pass/Fail (preclinical and clerkships) curriculum with no AOA 1 year preclinical, getting into rotations starting second year, 6 months dedicated for research, hundreds of electives during third year 95 class size, not sure if its too small or if this is a good thing Great research in everything, but especially bioinformatics and public health Housing/cost of living is... UMiami Miller MD/MPH vs. Tufts MD/MPH
Hello! I feel very fortunate to decide between these four-year MD/MPH programs, but I like them both for different reasons. Please help me decide! UMiami Miller: Pros Closeknit cohort within public health (50 students) Public health classes start earlier & it seems like it is more integrated and that you can get more out of it (includes the opportunity to get board certified in public health) Jackson Memorial/other clinical opportunities (2nd busiest hospital in the... Working for or with the fossil fuel industries on new developments can no longer be ethically justified in the light of global climate change and the great public health and sustainability damage the industries bring.
