Synthesis, characterization, and application of honey stabilized inulin nanoparticles as colon targeting drug delivery carrier
This study presents a novel method for synthesizing highly stable and non-aggregatory inulin nanoparticles (INU NPs) by ionotropic gelation method, using calcium chloride as crosslinker and natural honey as a stabilizing agent. Different formulation and process parameters were optimized for the synthesis of monodispersed INU NPs. These INU NPs efficiently encapsulated a hydrophilic drug irinotecan hydrochloride trihydrate (IHT) and drug loaded formulation (IINPs) demonstrated excellent colloidal and storage stabilities. Notably, these IINPs exhibited pH-dependent drug release, suggesting potential for colon-specific drug d...

Highly sensitive electrochemical sensing of norfloxacin by molecularly imprinted composite hollow spheres
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Feb 8;251:116119. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116119. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT)-based molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensors have attracted widespread attention for monitoring contaminants in food and the environment. However, there are still problems such as poor hydrophilicity, easy agglomeration, and low selectivity in its preparation. In this work, a novel molecularly imprinted composite hollow sphere was prepared by a molecular imprinting technique using nitrogen-doped hollow carbon spheres as matrix material, and PEDOT and poly(methacrylic ac...

Nematicidal activity of paucimannose-type glycoconjugates from acacia honey
Exp Parasitol. 2024 Feb 7;259:108707. doi: 10.1016/j.exppara.2024.108707. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNatural honey contains glycoconjugates as minor components. We characterized acacia honey glycoconjugates with molecular masses in the range of 2-5 kDa. The glycoconjugates were separated by RP-HPLC into three peaks (termed RP-2-5 k-I, RP-2-5 k-II, and RP-2-5 k-III) which demonstrated paralyzing effects on the model nematode C. elegans (ED50 of 50 ng glycoconjugates/μL). To examine molecular mechanisms underlying the nematicidal effects of honey glycoconjugates, expressional analyses of genes that are essential for the ...

Production, characterization and therapeutic efficacy of egg yolk antibodies specific to < i > Nosema ceranae < /i >
by Mehmet Nuri A çık, Burcu Karagülle, Seda Yakut, Yasin Öztürk, Mehmet Ali Kutlu, Recep Kalın, Burhan ÇetinkayaNosema disease, caused byNosema ceranae, one of the single-celled fungal microsporidian parasites, is one of the most important and common diseases of adult honey bees. Since fumagillin, which has been used for decades in the control ofNosema disease in honey bees (Apis mellifera), poses a toxic threat and its efficacy againstN.ceranae is uncertain, there is an urgent need to develop alternative prophylactic and curative strategies for the treatment of this disease. The main aim of this study was to invest...

Characteristics and contributing factors of diagnostic error in surgery: analysis of closed medico-legal cases and complaints in Canada
CONCLUSION: In our cohort, diagnostic errors occurred in most surgical disciplines and across all surgical phases of care; contributing factors were commonly attributed to provider clinical decision-making and communication breakdown. Surgical patient safety efforts should include diagnostic errors with a focus on understanding and reducing errors in surgical clinical decision-making and improving communication.PMID:38320779 | PMC:PMC10852193 | DOI:10.1503/cjs.003523 (Source: Canadian Journal of Surgery)
