expert witnesses?
Had a patient 2.5 years ago who committed suicide on oxycodone I had prescribed. Was taking 6 5/325s of oxycodone per day for cervical and lumbar spondylosis. No history of suicidal ideation, scored 2 on the ORT, PMP always good, no early refills. Was a patient for ten years. Was getting botox for cervicogenic headache (rebound excluded) every 3 months. Seen by me (not NPs) every 3 months. UDS 1X per year and narcotic contract. Had one UDS 5 years ago that tested well below threshold of... expert witnesses? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dyspnea And Skin Discoloration In A Transplant Patient — What’s The Cause?
What medication is associated with this patient’s presentation? A 41-year-old male patient presents to the emergency department with dyspnea, headache, vomiting, and weakness. He had a kidney transplant nine years ago, and has been on a stable anti-rejection regimen. He has allergies to ciprofloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. Reversal of androgenic alopecia in Lung Cancer.
Has anyone heard of this? I have a patient who just presented with weight loss and headache- found to have CA lung (most likely, biopsy pending) and a cerebellar lesion. Certiphi Tips! (Mine just came back after 2 business days)
Just a general tip that I feel like some people I’ve seen on here can save a lot of time and headache with - when filling out the Certiphi form, I half-assed all of my old addresses as I couldn’t be bothered to remember or find out the exact street names and numbers. For one of them, I just put the city and zipcode and N/A’d the rest. I submitted and 24 hours later my background check came back squeaky clean, which I released to med schools. Just put in as much as you can remember and knock... Certiphi Tips! (Mine just came back after 2 business days) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

M3 interested in EM: Do you plan on practicing into your late 50s or 60s?
I recently learned that a popular EM Twitter doc runs a headache clinic on the side. In conjunction with the constant threads and talks about the very real and understandable burnout in EM, I've begun thinking long-term about the implications of pursuing the specialty if I choose to do so. One area that is hard for me to get good insight and data on is on what being an EP would look like once past 50 or even 60 years of age. I am hoping for some insight from this community on this topic... M3 interested in EM: Do you plan on practicing into your late 50s or 60s? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Postbacc feels unnecessary?
Advisors are giving me a headache but I have to keep meeting w them as per our prehealth committee letter app requirements. Graduated with a little over a 3.7/3.5 c/s (graduated a yr early but last 40-45ish creds are straight A's including upper level sciences) and they said because I'm on the verge of having a shot with MD, to do a postbacc or consider SMP. At this point I just need a response to them bc I do need to be on good terms / seem like I'm following their advice for the sake of... Postbacc feels unnecessary? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Home SPG
Do any of you have a good method of prescribing home SPG for a migraine abortive? I’ve prescribed lidocaine drops successfully but I’m not sure what I can prescribe for equipment to administer it (dropper, syringes, etc). Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Failed Naplex Twice. Passed on third attempt. Tips
Hi All! I just want to share my experience with the Naplex and MPJE and hopefully shed some light and help fellow test takers. I am a bad test taker. I get nervous, blank out and often got headaches taking the long 6 hour exam. My first two Naplex scores were 73 and 70. Yes! I failed by a couple of points on both exams which was the most devastating part of it. My third exam, I made a 105! I made sure there was no room for error. As for studying, I used ONE book which was RxPrep, and also... Failed Naplex Twice. Passed on third attempt. Tips (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Chronic pain after near fatal swatting.
Swatting a Fly Without Killing It May Cause It Pain for the Rest of Its Life, Study Finds — Gizmodo Barely missing a fatal slap at a bothersome fly might be a headache for both of you, according to new research from scientists at the University of Sydney. Anyone else out there that loves haldol as much as myself?
During residency, my attendings never allowed me to use it outside of the few that kept relatively up-to-date with the literature, and then they only let me use it for gastroparesis or refractory migraines. Since becoming an attending, I probably use this stuff 2-3x per shift. It is absolutely amazing how much of a life saver this medication has been. What were once frequent difficult patient interactions, now these patients leave satisfied that their pain is well controlled. I actually... Anyone else out there that loves haldol as much as myself? If I hate working nights, what sort of subspecialties/practice arrangements in neurology should I look into?
Interested in hearing about people's day-to-day practice and satisfaction/gripes! Right now I like most everything I've seen in neuro, and I totally understand that residency is residency - you'll be on call a lot and super busy. However, for long-term career, I think waking up at 3am every few weeks to go see patients at the hospital would burn me out. I know headache and movement disorder docs generally have a more "chill" lifestyle, but would like to hear people's opinions on minimizing... Dentists giving vaccinations?
What are the rules about a dentist or his hygienists giving a patient a vaccination while he’s there. For example: your patient comes in sees the hygienist then typically waits 5-10 mins before the dentist comes by if at all. During that time what if they got their flu vaccine administered by either the hygienist or the dentist when he comes by. Get it all done in one visit. Save patient time and headache of going to doctor or pharmacy for their shots. Is this possible and how would it... Dentists giving vaccinations? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
