Estimating the Burden of Infant Group B Streptococcus Disease in Ontario, Canada: a Population-Based Cohort Study
Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is the leading cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis, and Canada ’s prevention strategy involves late pregnancy screening and intrapartum antimicrobial prophylaxis (IAP). We estimate the incidence of early-onset GBS disease (EOD) and late-onset GBS disease (LOD) in Ontario, Canada. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Neighborhood Socioeconomic Disadvantage and Group B Streptococcus Colonization in Pregnancy
We sought to determine if there is an association between neighborhood socioeconomic disadvantage and group B streptococcus (GBS) colonization in pregnancy. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Evaluating Penicillin Allergy In Obstetric Patients To Optimize Guideline Directed Group B Streptococcus Prophylaxis
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing an electronic health record best practice advisory (BPA) for obstetric patients with a penicillin allergy label to prompt evaluation in the Drug Allergy Clinic (DAC). De-labeling these patients can optimize antibiotic prophylaxis during labor for Group B Streptococcus (GBS) colonization, which affects 15-40% of pregnant women. Vaginal microecological imbalance and expression of serum inflammatory factors in pregnant women with group B streptococcus infection and pregnancy outcome
In conclusion, GBS infection can increase the incidence of vaginal microecological imbalance and the expression of serum inflammatory factors in pregnant women, and it can greatly raise the incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes.PMID:38279465 | DOI:10.14715/cmb/2023.69.15.26 (Source: Cellular and Molecular Biology)

High hydrostatic pressure is similar to Holder pasteurization in preserving donor milk antimicrobial activity
CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrates that this alternative sterilization method shows promise for use with DM in human milk banks.IMPACT: Antimicrobial activity of donor milk after High Hydrostatic Pressure treatment has not been clearly evaluated. Donor milk lactoferrin is better preserved by High Hydrostatic Pressure than conventional Holder pasteurization, while lysozyme concentration is not affected by either treatment. As with Holder pasteurization, High Hydrostatic Pressure preserves donor milk bacteriostatic activity against E. coli in addition to bactericidal activity against Group B Streptococcus. Donor milk treated...
