Malignant solitary fibrous tumor of the urinary bladder progressing to widespread metastases and death: a rare case report and literature review
Int J Clin Exp Pathol. 2023 Sep 15;16(9):243-251. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTSolitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the urinary bladder has been rarely reported and malignant bladder SFT is even rarer. Here we present a case of an African-American male with SFT of the urinary bladder (intermediate risk) initially treated by cystoprostatectomy at the age of 59 years. Eight years later, he developed recurrence with widespread metastases to the liver, lungs, and abdominal cavity. He then received temozolomide and bevacizumab with good disease control. However, treatment was paused due to declining performance status. Follow-up at 1 ye...

Synchronous and metachronous neoplasms of different histogenesis with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST): 10 years experience of a single institution
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of secondary malignancies in GIST patients is significantly higher than the healthy population. The high occurrence rate of additional primary tumors in GIST patients has focused the attention of surgeons on this problem. While it is not yet clear if there is a causal association or a common genetic mechanism for the concomitant occurrence of GIST with other malignancies, a closer surveillance of GIST patients is needed due to their proved increased prevalence of a second primary tumor especially during the first year after diagnosis.KEY WORDS: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor, Coexistence, Synchr...

Jejunal gastrointestinal stromal tumor that developed in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 1: a case report
Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is known to be associated with the frequent occurrence of unique gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), preferably occurring in the small intestine, with no mutations in the c-kit (Source: Diagnostic Pathology)

Radiomics in gastrointestinal stromal tumours: an up-to-date review
AbstractGastrointestinal stromal tumours are rare mesenchymal neoplasms originating from the Cajal cells and represent the most common sarcomas in the gastroenteric tract. Symptoms may be absent or non-specific, ranging from fatigue and weight loss to acute abdomen. Nowadays endoscopy, echoendoscopy, contrast-enhanced computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography are the main methods for diagnosis. Because of their rarity, these neoplasms may not be included immediately in the differential diagnosis of a solitary abdominal mass. Radiomics is an emerging technique that can extract medical ...

Long-term outcome after surgical resection of non-high-risk gastrointestinal stromal tumours without adjuvant therapy
CONCLUSION: Patients with completely resected non-high-risk GISTs have an excellent long-term outcome, irrespective of risk group. Follow-up programmes to detect disease recurrences in these patients are probably not indicated.PMID:37758514 | DOI:10.1093/bjs/znad309 (Source: The British Journal of Surgery)
