Gastric tumours
encompass adenocarcinoma, the most common type, as well as gastrointestinal stromal tumours, neuroendocrine tumours and gastric lymphoma. They are typically difficult to diagnose early as the ‘red flag’ features of gastric cancer tend to be associated with advanced disease. As a result, survival outcomes of gastric cancer are poor, with 5-year survival in the UK currently at 20%. There have been significant breakthroughs in systemic therapy and surgical technology to increase chances of cure and improve survival. (Source: Medicine)

Precision Oncology in Soft Tissue Sarcomas and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors
Soft tissue sarcomas (STSs), including gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), are mesenchymal neoplasms with heterogeneous clinical behavior and represent broad categories comprising multiple distinct biologic entities. Multidisciplinary management of these rare tumors is critical. To date, multiple studies have outlined the importance of biological characterization of mesenchymal tumors and have identified key molecular alterations which drive tumor biology. GIST has represented a flagship for targeted therapy in solid tumors with the advent of imatinib which has revolutionized the way we treat this malignancy. Herein, ...

Actionable mutational profiling in solid tumors using hybrid ‐capture‐based next‐generation sequencing in a real‐world setting in Spain
ConclusionThis is the largest cohort-level study in Spain to profile the analyses of biopsy samples of different tumors using NGS in routine clinical practice. Our findings showed that the use of NGS routinely provides good rates of informative results and can improve tumor characterization and identify a greater number of actionable mutations. Case report: Benign and malignant tumors in adult patients with neurofibromatosis type 1: a comprehensive case series from a large oncologic reference center
ConclusionIn Mexico, patients diagnosed with NF1 develop diverse tumors as adults. As described in other studies, the most frequent malignant tumor in this patient population is the malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor. Further studies are required to increase the scarce information available for adult Hispanics with NF1. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Giant exophytic gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) causing gastric outlet obstruction: case report and review of literature
We present the case of a middle-aged patient diagnosed with a giant gastric GIST, which presented for intermittent gastric outlet obstruction symptoms, and emphasize the major imagistic, histopathological, and therapeutic challenges that may be encountered. There are only several cases of gastric exophytic gastric GIST provoking intermittent gastric outlet obstruction. Tumor resection should be adapted to every patient's status, focused on en bloc extraction, with preservation of invaded organs as much as possible.PMID:38184841 | DOI:10.47162/RJME.64.4.17 (Source: Romanian Journal of Morphology and Embryology)
