Comparison of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in children at paediatric centres and adult centres: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The number of LCs performed, intraoperative cholangiography use and conversion rates were higher at ACs whereas bile duct injury and reoperation rates were higher at PCs. Despite a higher incidence of bile duct injury at PCs, the incidence at both PCs and ACs was <1%. In complex cases, a joint operation by both paediatric and adult surgeons might be a better approach to further improve outcomes. Overall, LC was found to be a safe operation with comparable outcomes at PCs and ACs.PMID:38445605 | DOI:10.1308/rcsann.2023.0041 (Source: Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England)

Therapeutic plasma exchange decreases serum triglyceride level rapidly and reduces early recurrence rate but no advantages in improving outcomes for patients with hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis: a retrospective propensity score matching analysis based on twenty year ’s experience
Hyperlipidaemic acute pancreatitis (HLAP) has become the most common cause of acute pancreatitis (AP) not due to gallstones or alcohol (Mosztbacher et al, Pancreatology 20:608-616, 2020; Yin et al, Pancreas 46... (Source: BMC Endocrine Disorders)

Increase in acute pancreatitis, especially gallstone related, as the cause for emergency admissions: Temporal trend from Kashmir, India
ConclusionThe incidence of acute pancreatitis is increasing due to gallstone pancreatitis. Ascariasis-related acute pancreatitis has declined. There is significant contribution of asymptomatic gallstones in patients who present for the first time as acute pancreatitis. Small gallstones  <  5 mm are likely to be the risk factors for gallstone pancreatitis.Graphical Abstract (Source: Indian Journal of Gastroenterology)

Bempedoic Acid: Lipid Lowering for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
Heart Int. 2023 Nov 1;17(2):27-34. doi: 10.17925/HI.2023.17.2.1. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe management of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels is a central strategy for the prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Current United States (2018 American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology/Multisociety) and European (2019 European Society of Cardiology/European Atherosclerosis Society) guidelines endorse statin therapy as the first-line therapy for pharmacologic LDL-C lowering. However, in clinical practice up to 30% of patients report partial or complete intolerance to statin therapy....
