Malignant primary tumors of scalp with cranial extension: multidisciplinary surgical strategies and outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: A multidisciplinary approach with aggressive neurosurgical resection is associated with good outcomes in patients with primary malignant scalp tumors, despite invasive disease on presentation. This analysis suggests that aggressive resection (level II and higher) is effective at reducing locoregional recurrence and is not associated with a higher risk of complications relative to resection without craniectomy. As most patients require scalp reconstruction to close the postresection defect, usually with vascularized free tissue transfer, involving a plastic surgeon in the surgical planning and execution is esse...

“Unusual Presentation of Epitheloid Dermatofibroma- Rare Case Report”
AbstractDermatofibroma is a commonly occurring cutaneous entity usually centered within the skin ’s dermis. Dermatofibromas are referred to as benign fibrous histiocytomas of the skin, superficial/cutaneous benign fibrous histiocytomas, or common fibrous histiocytoma. These mesenchymal cell lesions of the dermis clinically are firm subcutaneous nodules that occur on the extremities in the vas t majority of cases and may or may not be associated with overlying skin changes. A 20 years old male presented to ENT OPD, at a private hospital, with complaints of a huge mass over right side of face since 15 years, which was s...

PRAME immunohistochemistry in soft tissue tumors and mimics: a study of 350 cases highlighting its imperfect specificity but potentially useful diagnostic applications
AbstractPreferentially expressed antigen in melanoma (PRAME) immunohistochemistry is currently used in pathology for the assessment of melanocytic neoplasms; however, knowledge of its expression patterns in soft tissue tumors is limited. PRAME immunohistochemistry (clone QR005) was assessed on whole tissue sections of 350 soft-tissue tumors and mimics (> 50 histotypes). PRAME immunoreactivity was evaluated as follows: 0 “negative” (0% positive cells); 1+ (1–25% positive cells); 2+ (26–50% positive cells); 3+ (51–75% positive cells), and 4+ “diffuse” (> 75% positive cells). PRAME was expressed in 111 les...

Diagnostic utility of ERG immunostaining in dermatofibroma
Conclusions DF/FH was frequently positive for ERG immunostaining. ERG immunostaining may thus be useful to distinguish DF/FH from DFSP. (Source: Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Meningioma and Other Meningeal Tumors
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1405:73-97. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-23705-8_3.ABSTRACTMeningiomas develop from meningothelial cells and approximately account for more than 30 percent of central nervous system (CNS) tumors. They can occur anywhere in the dura, most often intracranially and at dural reflection sites. Half of the cases are usually at parasagittal/falcine and convexity locations; other common sites are sphenoid ridge, suprasellar, posterior fossa, and olfactory groove. The female-to-male ratio is approximately 2 or 3-1, and the median age at diagnosis is 65 years. Meningiomas are generally extremely slow-growing tumors;...

Lip Granular Cell Tumor (GCT) in a Pediatric Patient: Critical Literature Review on Pediatric Intraoral GCT and Acquired and Congenital Intraoral Non-Neural GCT
AbstractGranular cell tumor (GCT) is an uncommon benign neoplasm derived from Schwann cells, frequently affecting the oral cavity, skin, and gastrointestinal tract. On microscopy, pseudocarcinomatous squamous hyperplasia (PSH) and perineural involvement are potential diagnostic pitfalls. GCT should be differentiated from non-neural GCT (NN-GCT). A 13-year-old male patient was referred presenting a nodular lesion on the upper lip several months ago. After excisional biopsy, microscopy revealed GCT without PSH but presenting multifocal perineural involvement. By immunohistochemistry, ALK was negative, whereas Rb and INI1 exp...

A pruritic pedunculated pink nodule on the leg
Dermatol Online J. 2023 Apr 15;29(2). doi: 10.5070/D329260776.ABSTRACTHerein, we present a patient with a lipidized fibrous histiocytoma, an underrecognized variant of dermatofibroma (cutaneous fibrous histiocytoma). Our patient presented with a nodule on the ankle that showed foamy histiocytes and hyalinized collagen bundles on histology. This case highlights a classic presentation and features of lipidized fibrous histiocytoma, raising further awareness of this distinctive variant of dermatofibroma that should be distinguished from xanthoma and xanthogranuloma.PMID:37220292 | DOI:10.5070/D329260776 (Source: Dermatol Online J)
