Glycemic control and its associated factors among adult diabetic patients in Southern Ethiopia: a cross-sectional study
Conclusion: A high prevalence of poor glycemic control status (82.4%) was observed among diabetic patients in this study area, and disease-related factors like duration of diabetes, complication, treatment type and lack of self-glucose monitoring, physical exercise, and dyslipidemia were identified as factors significantly associated with poor glycemic control status. The finding of the current study should be taken into account to conduct a strategic and timely intervention on significantly associated factors to delay diabetic complications and to improve the health outcome of diabetic patients. Routine screening and moni...

Artificial Q-Grader: Machine Learning-Enabled Intelligent Olfactory and Gustatory Sensing System
In this study, an artificial Q-grader comprising surface-engineered zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films is developed as the artificial nose, tongue, and AI-based statistical data analysis as the artificial brain for identifying both aroma and flavor chemicals in coffee beans. A poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)/ZnO thin film transistor (TFT)-based liquid sensor is the artificial tongue, and an Au, Ag, or Pd nanoparticles/ZnO nanohybrid gas sensor is the artificial nose. In order to classify the flavor of coffee beans (acetic acid (sourness), ethyl butyrate and 2-furanmethanol (sweetness), caffeine (bitterness)) and ...

The prevalence and demographic associations of headache in the adult population of Benin: a cross-sectional population-based study
ConclusionsOverall, these findings are evidence that headache disorders are very common in Benin, a low-income country. The prevalence of pMOH, well above the estimated global mean of 1 –2%, is evidence that poverty is not a bar to medication overuse. The findings are very much the same as those in a similar study in its near neighbour, Cameroon. With regard to migraine, they are reasonably in accord with two of three earlier studies in selected Beninese populations, which did no t take account of probable migraine. This study adds to the hitherto limited knowledge of headache in SSA. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

Spatial variation and associated factors of inadequate counselling regarding pregnancy danger signs during antenatal care visits among pregnant women in Ethiopia: a Geographically Weighted Regression Model
Conclusion Inadequate counselling service regarding pregnancy danger signs in Ethiopia varies across regions and there exists within country inequality in the service provision and utilisation. Prioritisation and extra efforts should be made by concerned actors for those underprivileged areas and communities (as shown in the maps), and health extension workers, as they are found in the study. Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Apr 2:tpmd230622. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0622. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUninterrupted availability of vaccines requires a robust vaccine supply chain and logistics system (VSCLS). With special focus on remote and underserved settings, we assessed the reach and bottlenecks of the Ethiopian VSCLS after the initiation of the last mile transition. We explored the perspectives of key stakeholders using a qualitative phenomenological study. More than 300 in-depth interviews and 22 focus group discussions were conducted. The study was sequentially implemented over two phases to understand the bottlenec...
