Efficacy of Zhumian Tang formula granules combined with eszopiclone for the treatment of poor sleep quality: a multi-center, randomized controlled, superiority trial
CONCLUSION: The combination of Zhumian Tang formula granules with eszopiclone was found to be safe and more effective in improving sleep quality than eszopiclone alone. Traditional Chinese medicine can enhance the effectiveness of Western medicine in the treatment of insomnia.PMID:38213251 | PMC:PMC10774717 | DOI:10.19852/j.cnki.jtcm.2024.01.002 (Source: Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine)

Evaluation and management of insomnia in the clinical practice in Italy: a 2023 update from the Insomnia Expert Consensus Group
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that symptoms of insomnia must be assessed in the Italian clinical practice by evaluating nocturnal and daytime symptoms, comorbid conditions, and lifestyle. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia should be the first option according to availability. The choice of the drug should be based on different factors including type of insomnia, age, comorbidities, and potential side effects. If the choice would be a Z-drug or a short-acting benzodiazepine (in subjects  <  65 years old), the use should be in the short term (≤ 4 weeks). Indeed, eszopiclone, as a new option in Italy, ma...

Development and validation of presumptive spot test for the identification of z-drugs used in drug-facilitated crimes
AbstractThe significance and desire for preliminary testing approaches that are straightforward, quick, selective, affordable, and practical for use in the field are highlighted by the increasing enormous amounts of potentially illegal samples being seized worldwide. The “z-drugs,” which include zolpidem, zopiclone, and eszopiclone, are non-benzodiazepine medications used to treat insomnia. z-drugs are short-term solutions for sleeplessness and anxiety but have a long history of abuse and misuse. The extensive list is primarily utilized for drug-facilitated crim es and drug dependence. The presumptive color spot test f...

Patients Using Benzodiazepines Found at Low Risk of Long-Term Use, Unsafe Doses
Most people who received prescriptions for benzodiazepines and related drugs were not long-term users and did not escalate to higher-than-recommended doses, according to a large population-based longitudinalstudy inAJP in Advance.Benzodiazepine receptor agonists (BZRAs), which include benzodiazepines and the so-called “Z-drugs” (zopiclone, eszopiclone, zaleplon, and zolpidem), are the most commonly used drugs for treating insomnia and anxiety. However, because people may build up a tolerance to the drugs and can abuse them, many countries have sought to restrict their prescription. In 2020, the Food and Drug Administra...

Insomnia Management: A Review and Update
J Fam Pract. 2023 Jul;72(6 Suppl):S31-S36. doi: 10.12788/jfp.0620.ABSTRACTInsomnia is a distinct disorder that is common, yet underrecognized and undertreated in primary care. Treating insomnia has been shown to improve outcomes, including reduced risk of developing cardiovascular and mental health disorders. Insomnia is influenced by the brain's regulation of sleep and wake, which are mutually exclusive events. Insomnia should be treated as a distinct condition, even when occurring with a comorbid diagnosis such as depression or anxiety. Clinicians should implement a multimodal approach to insomnia management, including n...
