Vonoprazan versus lansoprazole in erosive esophagitis — A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionBased on limited number of published non-inferiority RCTs, our analysis demonstrates that among patients with EE, vonoprazan 20  mg once-daily dosing achieves comparable and in those with severe EE, higher endoscopic healing rates as compared to lansoprazole 30 mg once-daily dosing. Both drugs have a comparable safety profile. (Source: Indian Journal of Gastroenterology)

Barrett's Esophagus: A Comparison Study between Two Cohorts of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
CONCLUSION: Both Trivandrum and Kottayam belong to the same geographical area and are separated by a distance of only 150 km. The Kottayam cohort is more prone to develop distal esophageal carcinoma as the BE is more in Kottayam. This data also suggests the need for GERD registries so that high-risk population can be targeted and early intervention can lead to a decrease in the incidence of distal esophageal carcinomas.PMID:37355861 | DOI:10.5005/japi-11001-0108 (Source: Journal of the Association of Physicians of India)

Review of the clinical development of fexuprazan for gastroesophageal reflux –related disease
AbstractProton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are a mainstay treatment for acid peptic disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Although PPIs are considered first-line medications for acid suppression, they have notable limitations such as requiring acid-mediated activation, short half-life and duration of action, and metabolic variability. Fexuprazan is a newly developed potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB), which inhibits acid generation and secretion in a competitive and reversible manner. Fexuprazan, like other P-CABs, has significantly different pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties than PPIs w...

Randomised clinical trial: 3-year interim analysis results of the VISION trial to evaluate the long-term safety of vonoprazan as maintenance treatment in patients with erosive oesophagitis
VISION is a randomised, phase 4, open-label, parallel-group, multicentre study conducted in 33 centres in Japan. The aim of this study was to assess the long-term safety of vonoprazan for maintenance treatment... (Source: BMC Gastroenterology)

Novel Diagnostic Techniques in the Evaluation of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
AbstractIn our present clinical paradigm, patient symptoms and presentation in the setting of traditional findings from endoscopy (erosive esophagitis, Barrett ’s esophagus, reflux-mediated stenosis), esophageal high-resolution manometry, and/or ambulatory reflux monitoring (distal esophageal acid exposure time, numbers of reflux events, reflux-symptom association) guide the care of patients with suspected GERD. However, novel metrics and techniques acqu ired from or performed at endoscopy, manometry, or pH-impedance monitoring, beyond conventional evaluation, are of great interest to the gastroenterology community given...

Pepsin in saliva for the diagnosis of erosive esophagitis post-sleeve gastrectomy: a prospective observational study
ConclusionOur study distinctively identified salivary pepsin to have excellent sensitivity and negative predictive value in EE, potentially useful to preclude the need for post-LSG EGD in asymptomatic patients with low salivary pepsin. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Y Not Roux-en-Y?: Resolution of Barrett ’s Esophagus After Surgical Conversion of Gastric Sleeve in Two Patients
We report two patients who developed GER D and BE following SG with complete regression 12 months after conversion to RYGB in both subjects, confirming the substantially greater proportion of BE resolution in patients undergoing RYGB as revision surgery following SG. High visceral-to-subcutaneous fat ratio is associated with an increased risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease in non-obese adults
This study aimed to determine the association between GERD and abdominal fat area quantified by computed tomography (CT). Methods: We analyzed the effect of abdominal fat area on gastroesophageal reflux symptoms and erosive esophagitis using logistic regression models in 5,338 participants who underwent abdominal fat measurement CT and screening esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Results: Participants with reflux symptoms and erosive esophagitis were diagnosed in 1,168 (21.9%) and 671 (12.5%), respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that subcutaneous and visceral fat areas were significantly associated with reflux symptoms a...
