Use of flexible transnasal esophagogastroscopy in patients with unclear globus sensation
CONCLUSION: TNE is a quick and safe examination method for diagnosing patients with an unclear globus sensation. Detection of a hiatal hernia can be seen as an indication of reflux disease. Lack of evidence of a hernia does not rule out reflux. Thus, TNE is a useful addition to pH monitoring in patients with globus sensation, because reflux-related changes in the mucosa can be recognized early and adequately treated.PMID:38592479 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-024-01462-7 (Source: HNO)

Prediction, prevention and management of gastroesophageal reflux after per-oral endoscopic myotomy: An update
World J Gastroenterol. 2024 Mar 7;30(9):1096-1107. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v30.i9.1096.ABSTRACTAchalasia cardia, the most prevalent primary esophageal motility disorder, is predominantly characterized by symptoms of dysphagia and regurgitation. The principal therapeutic approaches for achalasia encompass pneumatic dilatation (PD), Heller's myotomy, and the more recent per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM). POEM has been substantiated as a safe and efficacious modality for the management of achalasia. Although POEM demonstrates superior efficacy compared to PD and an efficacy parallel to Heller's myotomy, the incidence of gastroesoph...

Age-specific causes of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in children
World J Gastroenterol. 2023 Dec 21;29(47):6095-6110. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v29.i47.6095.ABSTRACTThe etiology of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) varies by age, from newborns to adolescents, with some of the causes overlapping between age groups. While particular causes such as vitamin K deficiency and cow's milk protein allergy are limited to specific age groups, occurring only in neonates and infants, others such as erosive esophagitis and gastritis may be identified at all ages. Furthermore, the incidence of UGIB is variable throughout the world and in different hospital settings. In North America and Europe, most UGIBs...
