Sporotrichosis refractory to conventional treatment: therapeutic success with potassium iodide,
Abstract Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous mycosis caused by dimorphic fungi of the genus Sporothrix. The authors report a case of fixed cutaneous sporotrichosis with therapeutic failure after 18 months of itraconazole and terbinafine associated with cryosurgery. The patient was cured after the introduction of saturated potassium iodide solution. Sporothrix brasiliensis was the identified species, presenting a susceptibility profile to itraconazole and terbinafine. This fact suggests that therapeutic failure is probably related to the host-fungus interaction rather than drug resistance. It is possible that the immunomodulat...

Patient assessment of 5-fluorouracil and imiquimod for the treatment of actinic keratoses: a retrospective study of real-world effectiveness
CONCLUSION: High rates of skin reactions, prolonged discomfort, and the continued need for procedural treatments may make patients less willing to use topical 5-fluorouracil or imiquimod for actinic keratoses.PMID:33947303 | DOI:10.1080/09546634.2021.1917758 (Source: Journal of Dermatological Treatment)

Treatment Update of Port-Wine Stain: A Narrative Review
J Drugs Dermatol. 2021 May 1;20(5):515-518. doi: 10.36849/JDD.5005.ABSTRACTPort-wine stain (PWS) is a congenital vascular malformation affecting 0.3–0.5% of normal population. These characteristic lesions arise due to the interplay of vascular, neural, and genetic factors. Treatment options include lasers, cosmetic tattooing, electrotherapy, cryosurgery, derma-abrasion, and skin grafting; however, none of these treatment alternatives appears to be satisfactory and is unable to provide consistent, satisfactory responses or even complete cures. Currently, laser is the treatment of choice, as it is comparatively saf...

Cryosurgery as a Minimally Invasive Alternative Treatment for a Patient with Erosive Adenomatosis of the Nipple
Ann Dermatol. 2021 Apr;33(2):182-185. doi: 10.5021/ad.2021.33.2.182. Epub 2021 Mar 8.ABSTRACTErosive adenomatosis of the nipple (EAN), also known as nipple adenoma, florid papillomatosis, or papillary adenoma of the nipple, is a benign neoplasm originating from a lactiferous duct of the breast. Although the potential for malignant change is invariably negligible, the nature of the disease is quite intractable despite several treatment methods. Surgical excision is known as the treatment of choice, but this invasive approach is generally not acceptable to the vast majority of patients due to the cosmetic outcomes. Cryosurge...
