Comparative study of treatment efficacy in severe intraepithelial squamous cell lesions and preinvasive cervical cancer by conization and chlorin e6-mediated fluorescence-assisted systemic photodynamic therapy
CONCLUSION: In general, higher clinical efficacy and safety of the use of the chlorin e6-mediated fluorescence-assisted systemic photodynamic therapy in the treatment of intraepithelial squamous cell lesions and preinvasive cervical cancer have been established compared to the use of standard treatment methods.PMID:38521149 | DOI:10.1016/j.pdpdt.2024.104060 (Source: Cancer Control)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1241: Long-Term Follow-Up Outcomes in Women with In Situ/Microinvasive Adenocarcinoma of the Uterine Cervix Undergoing Conservative Treatment & mdash;Cervical Adenocarcinoma Study Group Italian Society of Colposcopy and Cervico-Vaginal Pathology
Conclusion: HPV testing in follow-up is of pivotal importance in women with early glandular lesions undergoing conservative treatment, given its recurrence predictive value. However, women who are high-risk HPV-negative in follow-up with non-usual-type histopathology may represent a sub-population at increased risk of recurrences. Further studies should confirm these findings. (Source: Cancers)

Assessing colposcopy competencies in medically underserved communities: a multi-center study in China
Colposcopy plays an essential role in diagnosing cervical lesions and directing biopsy; however, there are few studies of the capabilities of colposcopists in medically underserved communities in China. This s... (Source: BMC Cancer)

Value of high ‑risk human papillomavirus detection combined with colposcopy in the diagnosis of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions
Oncol Lett. 2024 Feb 29;27(4):185. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14318. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTIn the present study, the diagnostic value of high risk-human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) combined with colposcopy for the detection of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions was evaluated. A total of 397 patients with confirmed cervical disease were enrolled between August 2020 and December 2021. According to the pathological diagnosis, the patients were divided into cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade I (CIN I; n=153 cases), CIN II (n=101 cases), CIN III (n=86 cases) and cervical cancer (n=57 cases) groups. The HR-HPV-positive ...

Real-world effectiveness of cytology and HPV-based screening strategy in cervical cancer screening: A cross-sectional population-based study in Chengdu, China
This study summarized the results of a large-scale community-based cervical cancer screening program conducted in C hengdu, China, to understand the prevalence of HPV infection and cervical lesions in the population, and to compare the real-world effectiveness of two different screening methods implemented in the program. From January 2021 to December 2022, a total of 363,376 women aged 35–64 years in Chengdu r eceived free screenings. Among these participants, 70.1% received cytology screening and 29.9% received HPV testing combined with 16/18 genotyping and cytology triage. Ultimately, 824 cases of high-grade lesions a...

Tritesting in Battor, Ghana: an integrated cervical precancer screening strategy to mitigate the challenges of multiple screening visits and loss to follow-up
CONCLUSION: This study brings tritesting into the spotlight, as an alternative to other methods, particularly for women who prefer this due to the advantage of a single visit to a health facility and being more cost-effective, if they have to travel long distances to access cervical screening services.PMID:38414966 | PMC:PMC10898900 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2023.1645 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Transformation zone types: a call for review of the IFCPC terminology to embrace practice in low-resource settings
Ecancermedicalscience. 2023 Oct 9;17:1612. doi: 10.3332/ecancer.2023.1612. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTMost cervical cancers develop in the transformation zone (TZ). Type 3 TZs, where the full circumference of the squamocolumnar junction (SCJ) is not visible pose problems during cervical screening with visual inspection methods, as (pre)cancerous lesions may be missed. Several practical strategies can be implemented to convert type 3 TZs into TZ 1 or TZ 2, including the use of an endocervical speculum or hygroscopic cervical dilators, opening the vaginal speculum more widely, skillful use of cotton-tipped applicators, perform...

Antenatal and postnatal cervical precancer screening to increase coverage: experience from Battor, Ghana
CONCLUSION: A significant number of women in Ghana only visit a health facility during pregnancy or after delivery. ANC and PNC clinics would offer opportunities to increase coverage in cervical precancer screening in low-resource settings. Relying on community nurses ensures that such programs are readily integrated into routine care of women and no opportunity is missed.PMID:38414944 | PMC:PMC10898892 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2023.1616 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Out-reach Colposcopy Clinics and HPV Self-Sampling Decreases Loss to Follow up in a Community based Cervical Cancer Screening Programme
CONCLUSION: Our study showed that self-sampling could also be used effectively in the follow up of HPV positive women in the community. Outreach colposcopy clinics in their own villages enabled better follow up of HPV positive women.PMID:38415526 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.2.419 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)
