Validation of Process-Based Components of the LIBET-Q: An Innovative Instrument for Case Conceptualization
AbstractCase conceptualization is a widely used tool to describe and organize patient information and plan interventions in psychotherapy. Life themes and semi-adaptive plans: Implications of biased beliefs, elicitation, and treatment (LIBET) is a new method for case conceptualization that validates the diathesis-stress model and incorporates elements from the most important theories in the CBT field. LIBET also includes process-based components as maintaining factors of psychological distress, and it is not anchored to a specific kind of psychotherapeutic approach. The LIBET-Questionnaire (LIBET-Q) is a structured intervi...

Which Remote Rehabilitation Interventions Work Best for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain and Depression? A Bayesian Network Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: Interactive-voice-response CBT, and mobile-app CBT plus exercise showed similar treatment effects with in-person CBT on pain reduction among people living with chronic musculoskeletal pain and had over 98% probability of superiority than waitlist control at 12-weeks follow-up. Internet-delivered CBT & tele-care had over 99% probability of superiority than waitlist control for improving depression outcomes at 12-weeks follow-up.PMID:38406873 | DOI:10.2519/jospt.2024.12216 (Source: Physical Therapy)

Pain acceptance as a change mechanism for mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for migraine
AbstractMigraine is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. Third wave therapies, such as Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Migraine (MBCT-M), have proven efficacious in reducing headache-related disability. However, research is needed to better understand the change mechanisms involved in these third-wave therapies. Acceptance is a fundamental component of third wave therapies, and more research is warranted on the role of pain acceptance in MBCT-M. It is also valuable to understand the independent roles of the two components of pain acceptance —pain willingness (PW) and activity engagement (AE). The cu...

Cognitive Control and Flexibility to Happiness: Distress Tolerance and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation as Serial Mediators
In this study, serial multiple mediation analysis was performed to test the hypothetical model that addresses distress tolerance and difficulties in emotion regulation as serial mediators in the relationship between cognitive control and flexibility, and happiness. The participants were 315 Turkish individuals from 34 cities in T ürkiye. The structural equation modeling revealed that both distress tolerance and difficulties in emotion regulation have a full serial mediator role in the relationships between cognitive control and flexibility, and happiness. Limitations and future research suggestions are discussed. (Source:...

Treatment of Chronic Insomnia in Adults
Am Fam Physician. 2024 Feb;109(2):154-160.ABSTRACTInsomnia affects 30% of the U.S. population, with 5% to 15% meeting criteria for chronic insomnia. It can negatively impact quality of life, decrease productivity, increase fatigue and drowsiness, and put patients at higher risk of developing other health problems. Initial treatment focuses on nonpharmacologic therapies such as cognitive behavior therapy, which improves negative thought patterns and behaviors through sleep restriction, stimulus control, and relaxation techniques. Other nonpharmacologic treatments include exercise, mindfulness, and acupuncture. If these appr...

Predictors of Excessive Reassurance Seeking in Social Anxiety
ConclusionsFuture prospective, naturalistic, and experimental research is needed to verify that evaluative threat-related reassurance seeking in social anxiety may be driven by heightened self-doubt and engagement in post-event processing, which may hinder socially anxious individuals from receiving high-quality support from those in their social network. The Influence of Core Self-Evaluation, Mindfulness, and Rumination on Emotional Distress
AbstractCore self-evaluation (CSE) is a broad and latent trait which describes the fundamental appraisals made about one ’s capabilities, competence and worth. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between CSE and emotional distress and to explore how mindfulness and rumination influence this relationship. Participants (N = 351) undertook an online survey consisting of four psychometric scales; Core Self-Evaluation Scale, Five Factor Mindfulness Questionnaire short form, Ruminative Response Scale short form, and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale. Study results indicated that core self-evaluation...
