Matching into PCCM w/ a lot of Cards research
I'll be doing a Chief Resident position next year. I failed to match into Cards. I plan to dual-apply next year. There's a lot of overlap between both disciplines that appeal to me, but I also want to ensure I match into a fellowship following doing a chief resident position. I have about 20-25 publications (case reports, abstracts, a few manuscripts) that are mostly cardiology-based. I did do a manuscript on robotic bronchoscopy that I was the first author of. Anyway, I was wondering what... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How do new fellowship pathways form?
Not too long ago, EM-> pain became a thing. Same with EM—> CCM. What else could we do? I feel like cardiology would be realistic. Who decides? Who do we talk to? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can someone explain how academic pediatricians are paid?
3rd year medical student who has always been interested in academic medicine and pediatrics. Going into medical school I figured I would do peds and the do a fellowship in something (Cardio, GI, Pulm, Neph). At this point I have done most of my rotations minus IM and I am still leaning towards peds, but I am worried about actually finding a job and being able to pay off my med school debt (most likely $400k+ when I graduate). I would also like to be in Chicago as that is where my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice for M1 (3rd parties, grades)
Hi everyone, I am a first year medical student who scores a B/B+ average on our in-house exams. While I recognize this is not failing, I would really like to get an A- or A in the future. I mix between our class deck's in-house anki, Anki King, and sketchy. Some B&B when possible as well. I was wondering if you all suggest buying Usmle Rx, Amboss Qb, or starting Uworld early for practice questions? My next block is about cardio and pulm. Any general advice for scoring better would be... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Wedge
Anyone got any good links on reading about swan wedging? I never really learned it in fellowship. Another thing I hear the cardiologists talk about is the v wave... what's that? They've no swan or cvp so it's obviously something from their left heart cath So also anyone got anything good on left heart cath tracing, heart cath etc. For dummies (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Did not match into pulm crit need advice
Hello, I just wanted some advice regarding what I should do now that I have not matched for pulm crit this year. I am from a community program in NYC that is not very supportive of its residents. They do not really make any calls to try to get you an interview for fellowship. My scores were 236, 253, 214, 7 pubs (mostly GI some heme onc one cardio one) US IMG. I got only 2 interviews outside my program. I am also couple matching with my husband who is at the same program (he wants heme onc)... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can I realistically match into pulm/crit?
I am a US MD who graduated from a mid-tier university-affiliated community program in 2023. Currently doing a PGY-4 Chief residency in a different program. Step 1 240 Step 2 229 Step 3 225 ABIM - passed I applied for cardiology and did not match. Given my situation, I think cardiology is unrealistic. However, I can easily see myself happy in pulm/crit or critical care. I know pulm/crit also is very competitive. All my research/work (manuscript x1, abstract x1, poster x1) are all in...
