Cardiointerventional Radiology
Just out of curiosity, why didn't Coronary artery disease catheterization/stenting end up being treated in a similar fashion to what happened with the arteries that feed the brain?
In the neuro realm, even though Neurologists are still the main person diagnosing the patient and making long term management decisions about antithrombotic therapy and statins, they are usually not the ones performing the procedures (which go to surgeons and radiologists).
Do you think that there is...

What are my chances currently as the upcoming fellowship application season begins?
Hey There,
Neurotic PGY-2 here. I am a USDO at a university IM program with an in-house cardiology fellowship (IC and EP too). I am planning on applying this year to cardiology and would appreciate any insight into my application as it stands. I have flirted with taking a year off to boost my app further while pursuing either a hospitalist, non-ACGME fellowship, or being a Chief Resident at another institution.
Anyways, as it stands this is what my app looks like:
Publications...

The Effect of Pass/Fail Step 1 on Cardiology Fellowship Applications
Hey everyone,
Quick question that has been on my mind recently. Does anyone know what the effect of Step 1 now being pass/fail has on cards fellowship apps? Will there be more of an emphasis on Step 2? Also, when will PDs make the shift to stop filtering by Step 1 scores (asking as someone who was one of the last groups to take a scored Step 1 and didn't do super great on the exam)? Thanks, interested to hear everyone's thoughts. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Chances for ortho? - failed third block of MS1
I'm an M1 at a mid-tier med school and I just failed one of my blocks (neuro). I am doing remediation in a month. MSK was my first and best block and everything went downhill from there due to some family and personal problems. Barely passed my second block (cardio and pulm) as well. I feel like I probably am at the bottom of my class now. I think I might be interested in orthopedic surgery considering that I really enjoyed gross anatomy lab and MSK. Will this be a big red flag when it...

Deciding where to send LOI
Hello SDNers:
I'm currently accepted at Stony Brook, and am on the WL at UCSD, USF Morsani, Harvard, Hofstra and WashU. I'm super happy and grateful with having an acceptance to an awesome school! However, I want some advice on where to send my Letter of Intent (LOI), and where to send letters of interest?
Some context: I am a CA resident, and don't know what I want to specialize in. However, I want to leave the door open for more competitive residencies/fellowships (Cardiology, surgical...

Radiation therapy for intracardiac metastasis
Dear colleagues ,
my patient 56 yo known to have a history of oligometastatic STS, recently presented with a secondary lesion in the heart. He was strictly asymptomatic.
we decided to go forward with systemic treatment not considering radiation in this setting.
Unfortunately, he passed away secondary to arrhythmia (most probably related to his lesion).
1- i would like to know about your experience in the indication of radiation therapy (SBRT or other ) to treat similar lesions? selection...

Structural Cardiology Lifestyle
I'm wondering if anyone could share with me a typical week of an interventionalist with structural training looks like - split between coronary work and structural/PAD work? I'm specifically interested in people who work in major cities in the US. Also, how big is the average interventional group in the major cities and what does the call schedule look like? (Ie are most people taking STEMI call and general call?) Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help deciding between Cardiology and Heme/Onc Fellowship
Hello all,
I am trying to plan out my future and decide what kind of research to take on to best prepare myself for fellowships. I loved both Cardiology and Heme/Onc. If I did cardiology I think I would do interventional and maybe structural. I love procedures and I love how much variety you can get in cardiology. You can get acuity, continuity of care, you can do imaging, procedures, etc. That being said, I also love Heme/Onc. The science behind it is fascinating, it is very cerebral and...

Help me decide: Noorda COM vs ATSU-SOMA vs NYIT-Arkansas
I have been fortunate to have been accepted by these schools.
I am interested in radiology, neurology, cardiology & GI. I understand these specialties (except neuro) are not DO friendly and was wondering which of these schools would be the best for achieving them? I was leaning towards NYIT-Arkansas or ATSU SOMA. Any advice appreciated. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

General Cardiologists working as the primary attending in Cardiac ICUs?
I'm seeing some job openings for Cardiac ICUs where they are willing to take people without any formal critical care training. Is this a frequent situation? Who would be handling the vent? Intubating? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
