Is a research year necessary to get into a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship?
I am nearly done with my PGY-2 year and I'm very interested in CT surgery. We have the option of a research year, but I am wondering if that's absolutely necessary to do to get a position in a CT surgery fellowship. I do have projects that I am working on within my program, so I will have publications/presentations by the time I finish residency. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I wish to specialize in Derm, Cardiology, or Radiology in the future. Which school will be a better fit? I enjoyed my interview days at each school and everyone seems to be very cool during my second look visits. The caveat is I was assigned to the Peoria campus for UICOM whereas Loyola would be in Maywood/Chicago. I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

LOR Question
Hi all. Quick question regarding LORs and apologies as it may be a super dumb one. Is it appropriate to ask for a LOR from the head of the cardiology department at my institution if I've worked closely with them on a wards rotation? Especially if I'm trying to match at my home institution? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
