Maternal Eating Disorders and Adverse Birth Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Can J Diet Pract Res. 2023 Nov 30:1-9. doi: 10.3148/cjdpr-2023-019. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrevious systematic reviews have reported on the relationship between eating disorders (EDs) and birth outcomes, but there are no existing meta-analyses on this topic. This systematic review and meta-analysis examines the association between lifetime maternal EDs, including anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), and binge-eating disorder (BED) with low birth weight (LBW), preterm birth (PTB), small for gestational age (SGA), large for gestational age (LGA), and miscarriage. Four databases were systematically searched for...

Eating Disorders in Men-an Underestimated Problem, an Unseen Need
CONCLUSION: It is important to combat the stigmatization of men with eating disorders and to remove the obstacles to their appropriate diagnosis and treatment. The current methods of screening and diagnosis need to be adapted to take account of the special aspects of abnormal eating behavior in men. It remains unclear whether and how the disorder-specific treatment of these conditions in men should differ from their treatment in women.PMID:38019152 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0246 (Source: Deutsches Arzteblatt International)

Appetite. 2023 Nov 27:107136. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2023.107136. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVegetarianism is growing dramatically among adolescents and young adults. Professionals specialized in eating disorders (ED) may routinely face patients adhering to these popular vegetarian practices. This qualitative study aimed to investigate healthcare professionals' subjective experience of vegetarianism in ED patients. Interviews of practitioners specialized in ED, recruited from the French federation of anorexia and bulimia (FFAB), were conducted using a semi-structured guide. We reached data saturation. Thematic analysis wa...

Exploring the thalamus: a crucial hub for brain function and communication in patients with bulimia nervosa
ConclusionsOur study provides evidence that there is disrupted FC between thalamic subregions and other brain regions in BN patients during resting state. These regions are primarily located within the frontoparietal network, default mode network, somatosensory, and visual network. These findings elucidate the neural activity characteristics underlying BN and suggest that thalamic subregions have potential as targets for future neuromodulation interventions.
