Renal artery occlusion in a young woman - a tale of mysterious thrombosis
CONCLUSION: Renal artery thrombosis in young people is extremely rare and presents a diagnostic and management challenge requiring input from multiple teams including nephrology, rheumatology, paediatrics and vascular surgery. Systemic coagulopathy and vasculitis are differentials against anatomical aetiologies such as fibromuscular dysplasia. Our case adds to the limited literature regarding this in the young population. Renal artery thrombosis with occlusion in young people is very rare and is most often associated with a systemic coagulopathic disorder, such as antiphospholipid syndrome or structural pathology of the re...

Tongue patch angioplasty for small-caliber vein segments directly connected to juxta-anastomotic stenosis
This study introduces a surgical method to increase the size of small vessels in patients with juxta-anastomosis stenosis (JAS) requiring full-length dissection. The small-caliber segment that is adjacent to JAS is usually expanded using balloon angioplasty or surgically resected. After resection, if the cannulation site is sufficient, only the arterial anastomosis is moved proximally; otherwise, it is replaced with a prosthetic graft. Herein, we describe the cases of two 60- and 34-year-old men with left brachio-basilar and left radiocephalic fistulas, respectively. The first and second patients needed transposition and s...

FRED X flow diverter for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms: Two-center experience and mini-review of the literature
CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrate a high feasibility and procedural safety of the FRED X with adequate mid-term occlusion rates. Long-term and comparative studies are needed to evaluate the full potential of the FRED X.PMID:38651292 | DOI:10.1177/15910199241246018 (Source: Interventional Neuroradiology)

Stent retriever for Tandem Acute Revascularization Technique (START): a novel technique for the endovascular management of tandem occlusions
We describe a variation of this technique: the stent retriever for tandem acute revascularization technique (START), which consists of simultaneously treating the intracranial lesion with stent retriever and contact aspiration, and the extracranial lesion with balloon angioplasty. We present a technical video explaining all the steps of START.(video 1) Video 1 Description and example of the START. (Source: Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery)

Efficacy of drug-coated balloon catheters for patients with short-term recurrent dysfunction of arteriovenous fistula
CONCLUSION: For AVFs that require frequent PTA over a short period of time, DCB improved the patency rate 3 months after PTA, but the improvement effect at 6 months was limited. The effect of DCB on prolonging the patency rate of AVFs that require frequent PTA over a short period of time may be correlated with the RI value before and after PTA.PMID:38641588 | DOI:10.1177/11297298241245853 (Source: The Journal of Vascular Access)

Evaluation of the efficacy of combined device strategies for long femoropopliteal artery disease
AbstractOne of the major problems associated with bare nitinol stent implantation is stent fracture, particularly in the popliteal artery. The purpose of this study was to determine whether drug coated balloons (DCB), interwoven stents (IWS), or plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) would be suitable for use in distal femoropopliteal (FP) long lesions when an Eluvia stent was implanted proximal to a lesion. This was a multi-center retrospective study enrolling patients undergoing concomitant use of Eluvia with DCB, IWS or POBA for symptomatic atherosclerotic femoropopliteal disease (lesion length  >  15 cm) [Rutherf...

Usefulness of non-slip element percutaneous transluminal angioplasty scoring balloons in treating severe calcified lesions of the carotid artery for carotid artery stenting: A case report
CONCLUSION: This is the first report to describe the use of this scoring balloon in de novo carotid artery disease. NSE PTA scoring balloon catheters can be a useful option for refractory, highly calcified stenosis.PMID:38628518 | PMC:PMC11021079 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_923_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)
