Vasospasm in Pediatric Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
CNS Neurol Disord Drug Targets. 2023 Nov 27. doi: 10.2174/0118715273274147231104160152. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCerebral vasospasm (CV) is a common severe complication of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a severe type of intracranial bleeding that is uncommon in children. The purpose of this article is to review the current literature regarding this potentially devastating complication. CV may be asymptomatic and is less common in children compared to adults. Several molecular phenomena, including inflammatory ones, contribute to its pathophysiology. Better collateral circulation and higher cerebral blood flow are prot...

Comparison of drug-coated balloon angioplasty versus standard medical therapy on recurrent stroke and mortality rates among patients with symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction Stroke remains the second leading cause of death worldwide, a common cause of which is intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS). Medical treatment is recommended as first-line therapy for treating ICAS, but the recurrence rate remains high. Drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty has been designed to lower the risk of recurrent stenosis, holding therapeutic promise in the treatment of ICAS. However, the benefits of DCB require further evaluation. Methods and analysis The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols was followed to develop this protocol. We will systematically ...

A Narrative Review of Techniques for Surgical Revascularization of the Extracranial Vertebral Artery in Vertebrobasilar Insufficiency
Neurochirurgie. 2023 Nov 23:101516. doi: 10.1016/j.neuchi.2023.101516. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVertebrobasilar insufficiency is a condition characterized by poor blood flow through the posterior circulation of the brain, which supplies the brainstem, thalamus, hippocampus, cerebellum, occipital lobes, and medial temporal lobes. Narrowing or occlusion of the vertebral arteries may be result in a range of neurological symptoms, including dizziness, imbalance, dysarthria, and even stroke. If symptomatic patients fail medical management, revascularization of the vertebral artery should be considered. Restoration of blood...
