Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene and genome sequences place RKSG542T in a monophyletic clade with members of the genus Pseudovibrio. Strain RKSG542T shared <96.7 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity,<72.2 % average nucleotide identity,<66.7 % average amino acid identity, and <24.8 % digital DNA-DNA hybridization with type...

Nutrition of free ‐living Neotropical psittacine nestlings and implications for hand‐feeding formulas
AbstractPsittacidae is one of the most endangered families of birds in the world. Knowledge of their nutrition is important for understanding their survival and productivity in the wild, as well as for their adequate husbandry under human care. Hand-rearing is a common practice for psittacines, however research on their nutrition is limited. We analysed the predicted metabolisable energy, crude protein, crude fat, minerals  and the essential amino acid profiles of the crop contents from free-living nestlings of scarlet macaws (Ara macao) and red-and-green macaws (Ara chloropterus) from southeastern Peru, Cuban Amazons (Am...

Appreciative inquiry: A component of course evaluation and improvement
This study introduces appreciative inquiry (AI), a method of inquiry that promotes change through exploration of constructive possibilities, as an approach for course evaluation. Results demonstrate how AI motivated a cohort of 10 counseling students in the Bahamas to collaborate in course evaluation and continuous improvement of courses. Perception of Peer Condom Use Buffers the Associations Between HIV Knowledge, Self-efficacy, and Condom-Use Intention Among Adolescents: a Moderated Mediation Model
AbstractA better understanding of the complex relationships between HIV knowledge, self-efficacy, perception of peer condom use, and condom-use intention is needed for improving HIV prevention among adolescents. The study analyzed survey data collected from high school students (N = 1970) in the Bahamas. Mediation and moderated mediation modeling analyses were used for data analysis. Results showed that self-efficacy mediated the association between HIV knowledge and condom-use intention. Perception of peer condom use moderated the mediation model by modifying the HIV kn owledge-self-efficacy and self-efficacy-condom-u...

Validity of the Food Insecurity Experience Scale and prevalence of food insecurity in The Bahamas
CONCLUSION: This study, which is among the first to comprehensively measure food security in The Bahamas, provides a baseline for further research and evaluation of practices aimed at mitigating food insecurity in small island developing states. Further, this study provides a benchmark for future research, which may seek to understand the impacts of Hurricane Dorian and COVID-19, disasters further isolating the remote island nation. Post-disaster food security data are needed to further understand the extent to which food security is impacted by natural disasters and identify which sectors and stakeholders are most vital i...

Health Disparity, Natural Disaster, and COVID-19: Perspectives From a Bahamian American Nurse
Trauma clusters are formed when 2 or more disasters occur simultaneously and/or consecutively. These disasters have the propensity to potentiate health disparities. The purpose of this article is to share thoughts about critical caring theory and how the theory can inform holistic nursing action when health disparity amplifies trauma clustering. Unique Lucayan Sand Dune Burials at the Rolling Heads site, Long Island, The Bahamas
This article describes the unique environmental and cultural contexts of Lucayan individuals who were buried at the Rolling Heads site. The local g eomorphology reflects long-term processes of dune erosion and remodeling that suggest that an unknowable number of additional individuals were buried at the site. The physical characteristics and mortuary practices are different from those observed elsewhere in the Caribbean, highlighting regional d iversity and local practices. They raise the question of why different portals were used to transmit the dead to their afterlife. Finally, these individuals are contributing to regi...
