The effect of different angle kappa on higher-order aberrations after small incision lenticule extraction
This study aimed to compare higher-order aberrations (HOAs) after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) in patients with different angle kappa. This is a retrospective report in which 341 right eyes of 341 patients who were subjected to SMILE, which used coaxially sighted corneal light reflex (CSCLR) as the treatment zone centered, treated by the same experienced surgeon (LHB) for correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism, preoperative and postoperative spherical equivalent (SE), angle kappa, total higher-order aberrations (total HOA), spherical aberration (SA), vertical coma (VC), horizontal coma (HC), oblique tre...

Corneal refractive error and astigmatism in patients aged 6 to 18 years with a history of retinopathy of prematurity and birth weight of & lt;1500 g
ConclusionCR was significantly higher in the sr-ROP (p=0.013) and PC-ROP (p<0.001) groups than in the NBW group. The PC-ROP group had significantly more AS than the sr-ROP group. There was a strong correlation between the anterior and posterior CR and AS. (Source: Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology)

Accuracy of toric intraocular lens calculations using estimated versus measured posterior corneal astigmatism.
Toric intraocular lenses (tIOL) provide the opportunity to reduce postoperative refractive astigmatism and improve visual quality.1 Nonetheless, accurately predicting the final refractive astigmatism remains a challenge. Previous studies have stressed the importance of posterior corneal astigmatism (PCA) in predicting postoperative astigmatism.2,3 Traditionally, a fixed ratio between the anterior and posterior corneal curvature was assumed to estimate the total corneal astigmatism. However, Koch et al. (Source: American Journal of Ophthalmology)

Modelling ready-made spectacle coverage for children and adults using a large global database
Conclusion Despite their advantages in cost and convenience, coverage delivered by RMS is limited under current prescribing guidelines, particularly for children and presbyopic adults. Interchangeable designs do little to remediate this, despite extending coverage for anisometropia. Our free application allows users to estimate RMS coverage in specific target populations. Effect of spectacle lenses with aspherical lenslets on choroidal thickness in myopic children: a 2-year randomised clinical trial
Conclusions The ChT of the macula decreased after 2 years of myopia progression with SVL. Wearing spectacle lenses with aspherical lenslets reduced or abolished the ChT thinning and HAL had a more pronounced effect. Trial registration number ChiCTR1800017683. Basic acquired nonaccommodative esotropia patients managed with surgery; a study of 2102 patients
DISCUSSION: The higher astigmatism, lower CDVA, greater angle of horizontal deviation, and higher frequency of amblyopia were found in the preoperative examinations of BANAET patients managed with two or more surgeries compared with cases managed with only one surgery.PMID:37982308 | DOI:10.1080/09273972.2023.2283109 (Source: Strabismus)

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 9273: Aberration Theory of a Flat, Aplanatic Metalens Doublet and the Design of a Meta-Microscope Objective Lens
-Je Kim A theoretical approach for reducing multiple monochromatic aberrations using a flat metalens doublet is proposed and verified through ray tracing simulations. The theoretical relation between the Abbe sine condition and the generalized Snell’s law is revealed in the doublet system. Starting from the Abbe aplanat design, minimization conditions of astigmatism and field curvature are derived. Based on the theory, a metalens doublet is semi-analytically optimized as a compact, practical-level meta-microscope objective lens working for a target wavelength. The proposed approach also reveals how to red...

Comparison between IOL MASTER 500 and MYAH with vector analysis in low and mild anterior corneal astigmatism
CONCLUSIONS: The instruments appear to be interchangeable for measurements of AL, keratometry, and magnitude of ACA with high agreement between the two devices. Also, in the presence of low astigmatism, the two instruments give the same results in terms of ACA.PMID:37919941 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231210895 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)
