High-grade serous papillary ovarian carcinoma combined with nonkeratinizing squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix: a case report
Multiple primary malignant neoplasms are a rare gynecologic malignancy; particularly, cases originating from the heterologous organs, such as the ovary and cervix. Here, we report a case of two primary malignant neoplasms in a patient who had undergone laparoscopic radical hysterectomy + bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy + pelvic lymph node dissection + para-aortic lymphadenectomy + appendectomy + omentectomy + metastasectomy under general anesthesia. The patient experienced complete remission after six courses of postoperative chemotherapy with a standard Taxol and Carboplatin regimen. Genetic testing was performed to detec...

Detection and identification of factors in the atrium responsible for blood pressure regulation in patients with hypertension
This study aimed to validate the transcriptional profiles of atrial genes responsible for blood pressure regulation in patients with hypertension as well as to identify the molecular mechanisms in rat biological systems. RNA sequencing data of left atrial appendages from patients with (n = 6) and without (n = 6) hypertension were subjected to unsupervised principal component analysis (PCA). Reduction of blood pressure was reflected by third and ninth principal components PC3 and PC9, and that eighteen transcripts, including endothelin-1, were revealed by PCA-based pathway analysis. Resection of t he left atrial ap...

Single-port laparoscopic appendectomy using new surgical procedure versus conventional three-port laparoscopic appendectomy
AbstractThe aim of this study was to compare the clinic outcomes between new single-port laparoscopic appendectomy (NSLA) and conventional three-port laparoscopic appendectomy (CTLA) for patients with acute appendicitis. Patients who were diagnosed with acute appendicitis and underwent appendectomy were retrospectively collected from a single clinical center from September 2021 to June 2023. Baseline characteristics, surgical information, and postoperative information were compared between the NSLA group and the CTLA group. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to find out the predictors of ove...

Successful Use of Ultrasound Guided Quadratus Lumborum Block Without General Anesthesia for Open Appendectomy in a Patient with Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction- A Case Report and Literature Review
CONCLUSION: Quadratus Lumborum Block for open appendectomy can be a beneficial alternative anesthesia technique in high-risk patients that significantly lowers perioperative cardiovascular risk, maintains hemodynamics, enhances satisfaction, and shortens hospital stay.PMID:38419671 | PMC:PMC10899805 | DOI:10.2147/LRA.S438176 (Source: Local and Regional Anesthesia)

Antibiotic Treatment in Complicated Appendicitis: Can It Be Optimized?
CONCLUSIONS: Generalized peritonitis and CRP > 20 gr/L were highly correlated with changing the antibiotic regimen to TP. For such patients, initial treatment with TP may result in clinical improvement and shorter hospitalization.PMID:38420639 (Source: The Israel Medical Association Journal)
