Help with School Choice
Thankful to receive multiple acceptances this cycle. For background, I have always done very well academically in all subjects except anatomy. I am not much of a visual learner and I struggle with the three dimensionality of anatomy. In undergrad I struggled heavily with cadaver lab practicals and am worried this could be an issue for me in med school. I have settled on a top 3 for my school choices and need help deciding with this in mind. School A: I currently do an SMP at this school and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

RN to MD transition process [2 year old RN transition to Medschool], please help
Thanks all, I am a 25-year-old Registered Nurse who completed nursing school two years ago. Although I have no premedical background beyond the fundamentals of biology and anatomy for nursing school, I am now interested in pursuing more education (med school). I am applying for Canadian Schools and there is a few that have a criterion to accepts students without Premed prerequisites. I'm at a loss on how to begin and am stuck. Since the university I'm applying to has a September 2024... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2018 Grad Do I need to Retake All Prereqs?
As the title said, I graduated from college in 2018. My Prereqs were mostly taken between 2016-2018 with 2-3 in 2013. I did well and had an ~3.8 SGPA. I am planning to take Biochem, Gen Chem 2, & Human Anatomy Physiology 1/2 in 2024. I hope to apply in 2025 as long as I do decent on the MCAT. Mainly I just want to know if an adcom member or previous non-trad with a similar time gap would say I need to retake all my Prereqs or if the 4 classes I am taking in the upcoming year will be... Jail Anatomy
I’m very uninformed about jail work. I decided to tour one (ok, a really big one) where to this day I still don’t understand what psychiatrists roles are akin to in the various units (apart from the inpatient). Has anyone encountered something like an, “inmate reception center?” I have the impression it’s a medical/psychiatric triage. …What are “typical” jail units and what are psychiatrists’ roles akin to in them (ie similar to inpatient vs outpatient vs er vs consult)? How do those with... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What is a Pharmacy Residency for Neurology Like? How Do I Make Myself Competitive?
I'm working on going back to Pharmacy school and I know I'm interested in being a Clinical Pharmacist. For those Pharmacists who've completed a residency, how much patient interaction would you say you have? Is the work fulfilling and do you get to learn a good deal about Physiology and/or Anatomy? Does the salary of a Clinical Pharmacist afford you a comfortable lifestyle? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Relating to my classmates as a low-SES student
I've always been (unfortunately) always been the weird fish in the small pond whether in special ed / ESL in elementary school, in the youth shelter or on the ambulance, and I'm sure my being neurodivergent is not helping. I am enthusiastic about many topics (even anatomy, which I managed to survive) and now we've moved on to my favorite pet topics ... medical biochemistry, and I'm finding the level of learning is broader, but at a more superficial level compared to the PhD Biochemistry... Studying for USMLE Step 1
Hello, I am a second year med student and I am looking at creating a study schedule and plan for step 1. I am feeling kind of overwhelmed and I don’t know where to start I struggled a little bit my first year since I had to retake 2 final exams and then I had to retake the first final exam of second year (which was anatomy). I have passed all of the retakes and since my school is pass/fail, only the pass shows up on the transcript (no indications for if you had to do a retake exam) I have... Trying to get pregnant... how to approach anatomy/formalin exposure?
First of all, and I cannot believe I have to say this, I am NOT asking for your comments on my reproductive choices. kthx I'm currently trying to conceive and I know anatomy lab is coming up soon. I've done quite a bit of reading regarding risk of formaldehyde exposure to the embryo/fetus, and I have found that the evidence is far from conclusive but there is enough cause for concern that I would like to take extra steps to limit my exposure. Knowing that the greatest risk of most... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

A little neurotic: P/F course after acceptance
I'm currently taking anatomy (not as a major requirement just for fun) and it's taking so much time. Some home stuff happening means I'm pretty tight on time already. I already received an acceptance from a program I would be pretty stoked to attend so I'm wondering if it would matter if I just elect this course P/F? I currently have an A- in the course and honestly if I worked harder, I could get it up to an A, but again so exhausted and it would be nice to sort of watch lectures just for... Is Sketchy + Anki sufficient to do well in school?
Hey all, USMD M1 here who had a lot of trouble in my first block (biochem + anatomy) and just barely passed my in-house exams. However, I feel so much better in block 2 (micro, path, and pharm) because I basically disregarded the lectures our school gives and started using Sketchy and making Anki cards out of every video. I'm actually getting questions right on practice quizzes and feel good. I guess I'm a pretty visual learner, haha. Does anyone have experience using primarily Sketchy as a... Aphantasia in med school
So I have aphantasia. For those of you who don’t know what that is, I am cognitively unable to imagine imagery. For example, if you tell me to think of what an apple looks like, or picture my moms face, I am unable to. People with aphantasia typically have a high IQ, however, from my understanding, a lot of anatomy and physiology memorization is imagery based. Do I stand a chance in medical school? I feel like my inability to imagine pictures will put me at a disadvantage. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Staying motivated during D1?
D1 here, about 2 months in. Feeling that midterm vibe. Is it normal to be somewhat bored/disillusioned during D1 year? All this didactic coursework just feels droning. Even though we have lab and work on waxing so much, I just am not feeling connected to dentistry. Not a big fan of gross anatomy, it's just like why do we have to know this as a dentist, and so much work for that class. I feel like I just really want to see people and actually work on real dentistry. But clinic years are 2... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
