IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 596: The Role of Career Adaptability and Academic Engagement in College Student & rsquo;s Life Satisfaction
This study included 201 participants, 156 women (77.6%) and 45 men (22.4%), aged between 18 and 55 years (M = 21.13, SD = 4.51). Students answered a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale, the University Student Engagement Inventory, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. Positive and statistically significant correlations between career adaptability and academic engagement, as well as between these variables and life satisfaction, were found. The results of a hierarchical linear regression analysis suggested that career adaptability and academic engagement statistically significantly contribute to...

Coparenting and Adolescent Academic Engagement: The Mediating Role of Parent –Child Communication Among a National Sample of Chinese Families
ABSTRACTThe relationship and related mediating mechanism between parental coparenting and adolescent academic engagement have yet to be elucidated during the pandemic. The present study is set to investigate the relationship between parental coparenting and adolescent academic engagement within Chinese families. Then it examines the mediating effects of parent –child communications in relationships. As a part of the national online survey in China, fathers, mothers and adolescents from 700 families across the country participated in the online survey. Both parents reported their coparenting support and conflict, while ad...

Theta and alpha oscillations may underlie improved attention and working memory in musically trained children
Conclusions: These results suggest that musically trained children have improved neuronal mechanisms for both attention allocation and memory encoding. Our results can be important for developing interventions for people with attention and working memory difficulties. (Source: Brain and Behavior)

The U.S. has a new way to mask census data in the name of privacy. How does it affect accuracy?
U.S. residents who fill out the census questionnaire every 10 years are told their answers will remain confidential. But that promise from the U.S. Census Bureau comes with a statistical caveat: The stronger the privacy shield, the less accurate the data. That trade-off, long familiar to researchers, became a hot-button issue after the government adopted a new approach to protecting privacy for the 2020 census. Many demographers worried the new method would degrade the quality of census data, which are used not just for academic studies, but also for drawing congressional districts and allocating federal funds. But n...

Analysis of neurosurgery resident research activity in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: The authors observed overall high research activity among neurosurgery residents. Factors such as gender, degree, PGY, IMG/AMG status, and medical school rank may therefore be related to the success of matching within neurological surgery. Although large disparities in gender representation have been identified in neurosurgery, newer classes are trending toward shrinking the gap. These data may be used by prospective residents to gauge changes and progress occurring in the neurosurgery match.PMID:38701523 | DOI:10.3171/2024.2.JNS232752 (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery)

Association of preprocedural antiplatelet use with decreased thromboembolic complications for intracranial aneurysms undergoing intrasaccular flow disruption
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study suggest that the preprocedural administration of antiplatelets is associated with a reduced likelihood of TECs in patients undergoing treatment with the WEB device for wide-necked bifurcation aneurysms. However, postprocedural antiplatelet use did not show a significant impact on TEC occurrence.PMID:38701528 | DOI:10.3171/2024.2.JNS232918 (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery)

Assessing and mitigating pH-mediated DDI risks in drug development - formulation approaches and clinical considerations
Drug Metab Rev. 2024 May 3:1-20. doi: 10.1080/03602532.2024.2345632. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTpH-mediated drug-drug interactions (DDI) is a prevalent DDI in drug development, especially for weak base compounds with highly pH-dependent solubility. FDA has released a guidance on the evaluation of pH-mediated DDI assessments using in vitro testing and clinical studies. Currently, there is no common practice of ways of testing across the academia and industry. The development of biopredictive method and physiologically-based biopharmaceutics modeling (PBBM) approaches to assess acid-reducing agent (ARA)-DDI have been prov...

Genetic and Environmental Influences on Perceived Stress in South Korean Twins
This study aimed to investigate genetic and environmental influences on PS in South Korean twins. South Korea practices a dominant collectivist culture. In total, 1372 twin individuals (mean age = 22.4 ± 2.5 years) completed an online survey on PS, which consisted of the scales, Friendship, Academic Stress, Future Career, Family Conflicts, and Family Financial Difficulties (FFD). Friendship, Academic Stress, and Future Career can be considered PS due to personal life events, and Family Conflict and FFD, PS due to network life events. The general sex-limitation model-fitting analysis revealed the absence of qualitative or ...

Opioid use and disposal at 2 weeks post-surgery: Brief communication regarding excess opioids and disposal habits
CONCLUSION: Two-thirds of the patients reported having excess opioids, highlighting the issue of an overabundance of unused prescription opioids in America. Utilization of opioid-free pain management strategies and drug disposal kits should be explored to reduce the number of unused and improperly disposed opioids.PMID:38700391 | DOI:10.5055/jom.0854 (Source: Journal of Opioid Management)
