Limb Necrosis in the Setting of Vasopressor Use
CONCLUSION: The findings of this study suggest that medication-specific factors, rather than patient and disease characteristics, should guide clinical management of necrosis in the setting of vasopressor administration.PMID:38688844 | DOI:10.4037/ajcc2024171 (Source: American Journal of Critical Care)

Early Mobility Index and Patient Outcomes: A Retrospective Study in Multiple Intensive Care Units
CONCLUSIONS: More daily out-of-bed mobility for ICU patients was associated with shorter mechanical ventilation duration and hospital stays, suggesting a dose-response relationship between daily mobility and patient outcomes. However, relationships differed across ICU subpopulations.PMID:38688854 | DOI:10.4037/ajcc2024747 (Source: American Journal of Critical Care)

Respiratory health and the Syrian conflict: a scoping literature review
Med Confl Surviv. 2024 Apr 30:1-42. doi: 10.1080/13623699.2024.2343996. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTConflict adversely affects respiratory health in both direct and indirect ways among populations whose health is already compromised through the compounding effects of conflict. Our aim is to review academic and grey literature relevant to respiratory health in the Syrian conflict (now more than a decade in duration) to explore its impacts on populations across Syria. We performed a scoping literature review of academic and grey literature on respiratory health in Syria between March 2011 (taken as the start of the conflic...

Curr Pharm Des. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.2174/0113816128269864231112094917. The ripple effect of the COVID-19 outbreak has created serious problems in the healthcare systems of many countries and had far-reaching consequences for the global economy. Thus, effective control measures should be implemented for this coronavirus infection in the future. The ongoing episode of the SARS-CoV-2 sickness, COVID-19, in China, and the subsequent irregular spread of contamination to...

Preparing Future Military Medical Officers to Conduct Emergency Fresh Whole Blood Transfusions in Austere Environments: A Novel Training Curriculum
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that the implementation of streamlined EFWBT training into the undergraduate medical education of future military medical officers offers an efficient way to improve their baseline proficiency in EFWBTs. Future research is needed to assess the impact of this training on real-world applications in forward-deployed environments.PMID:38687599 | DOI:10.1093/milmed/usae162 (Source: Military Medicine)

The moderating role of conscientiousness in the temporal association of stress on sleep
This study examined whether daytime stress predicts sleep the following night, and the moderating role of neuroticism and conscientiousness in this relationship. To introduce stress variability in natural daily stressors, we measured college students (N = 92) during exams (e.g. high academic stress) and at the start of new course period (e.g. low academic stress). Both objective (actigraphy) and subjective sleep, and daily self-reported stress, were measured for 14 days and personality traits once. Reported daily stress was significantly higher in the exam period compared with baseline, suggesting that our natural manipula...

Understanding Public Perception of Naloxone: A Study of FAQs and Answer Source Credibility
CONCLUSION: We identified FAQs and their citations about naloxone, highlighting potential lack of understanding and knowledge of this important intervention. We recommend updating websites to accurately reflect current and useful information for those that may require naloxone.PMID:38688898 | DOI:10.1080/10826084.2024.2341319 (Source: Substance Use and Misuse)
