Epidemiological and Clinical Patterns of Newly Diagnosed Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Brazil: the Need for Liver Disease Screening Programs Based on Real-World Data
ConclusionThe diagnosis of HCC in the Brazilian public health is usually made in patients with no previous diagnosis of liver disease and in advanced stages, when no curative treatment is available and survival rates are low. Public health policies are key for the screening and monitoring liver disease and, consequently, HCC.

Abstract
Heat shock protein 27 (HSP27), an intracellular molecular chaperone, is involved in the pathogenesis of cancer by promoting both tumor cell proliferation and resistance to therapy. HSP27 is also present in the circulation and circulating HSP27 (sHSP27) can elicit an autoimmune response with production of antibodies. Levels of sHSP27 are enhanced in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); it is, however, unknown whether changes in HSP27 antibody levels occur in patients with HCC and can be exploited as a circulating biomarker of HCC. Our aim was to assess the potential association between newly diagn...

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major cause of chronic viral hepatitis, severe liver diseases, and liver cancer. Approximately 250 million people worldwide are chronically infected with HBV and it is estimated that one million people die annually, mostly from cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (WHO, 2019a). About 5% of chronic HBV carriers are co-infected with hepatitis delta virus (HDV) (WHO, 2019b) which is a defective RNA virus that requires hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) for its replication (Taylor, 2003).

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Most effective method for reducing mortality from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is early diagnosis. Despite its lack of adequate sensitivity, ultrasound is considered fundamental for HCC screening.
AIM: to evaluate urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) as non-invasive marker for HCC diagnosis in Egyptian patients.
METHODS: One hundred and twenty patients were divided into three groups (40 patients each): patients with chronic viral hepatitis (HCV or HBV), cirrhotic patient...

In conclusion, multi-faceted cancer control within the palliative care of liver malig nancies is crucial for improved disease outcomes including individualised patient profiling, predictive models and implementation of corresponding cost-effective risks mitigating measures detailed in the paper. The “proof-of-principle” model is presented.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most frequent primary liver cancer, is the sixth most common cancer, the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and accounts globally for about 800,000 deaths/year. Early detection of HCC is of pivotal importance as it is associated with improved survival and the ability to apply curative treatments. Chronic liver diseases, and in particular cirrhosis, are the main risk factors for HCC, but the etiology of liver disease is rapidly changing due to improvements in the prevention and treatment of HBV (Hepatitis B virus) and HCV (Hepatitis C virus) infect...

AbstractThe World Health Organisation, in its 2019 progress report on HIV, viral hepatitis and STDs indicates that 257 million people are afflicted with chronic HBV infections, of which, 1 million patients lose their lives every year due to HBV related chronic liver diseases including serious complications such as liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The course of HBV infection and associated liver injury depend on several host factors, genetic variability of the virus, and the host viral interplay. The challenge of medical science is the early diagnosis/identification of the potential for development of fatal com...

ConclusionOur results suggest that GM disorders are more common in patients with LC ‐HCC. The butyrate‐producing genera were decreased, while genera producing‐lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were increased in LC‐HCC patients. Further studies of GM disorders may achieve early diagnosis and new therapeutic approaches for HCC patients.
