Lack of toxicological influences by microsampling (50 µL) from jugular vein of rats in a collaborative 28-day study. J Toxicol Sci. 2020;45(6):319-325 Authors: Yokoyama H, Hattori N, Ohtsuka H, Murata E, Kobayashi A, Muta K, Takumi A, Kitaura H, Jinno F, Iwai A, Nakai K, Mori K, Saito K, Saito Y Abstract Due to finalization of the ICH S3A Q&A focusing on microsampling, application of microsampling technique to regular non-clinical animal studies is expected for non-clinical safety assessment of pharmaceuticals. In Europe, microsampling from the tail vein or saphenous vein has often been used, whe...

Authors: Shigematsu T, Asada S, Endo Y, Kawata T, Fukagawa M, Akizawa T Abstract Purpose: Evocalcet is a novel oral calcimimetic drug that has demonstrated similar efficacy to cinacalcet in regulating serum parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, and phosphate levels, with fewer upper gastrointestinal tract-related adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism undergoing hemodialysis in Japan. We investigated the efficacy and safety of once-daily oral evocalcet under different dialysate calcium concentrations. Patients and Methods: A post hoc analysis by dialysate calcium concent...

Authors: Du WJ, Wang J, Wang Q, Yuan LJ, Lu ZX Abstract Context/objective: At present, there is no consensus on the most effective surgical method for treating symptomatic lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Total laminectomy, which is frequently used at this time, destroys the posterior midline structure, causing many postoperative complications. We have designed a new surgical approach instead of total laminectomy. In this paper, we aimed to describe the surgical method of endoscopic modified total laminectomy for lumbar spinal stenosis as well as to explore its early efficacy.Participants: Patients with symptomatic LS...

Authors: Carrega G, Casalino-Finocchio G, Cavagnaro L, Felli L, Riccio G, Burastero G Abstract Long-term evaluation of prosthetic joint infection treated with two-stage revision. Retrospective analysis of 102 periprosthetic infections treated with two-stage revision from 2010 to 2012 in Albenga hospital, Italy. During the second stage, samples for microbiological tests were collected. Failure was defined as a persistence of infection during the second stage or as a relapse during follow-up. 102 cases (55 hip, 47 knee) were analyzed. Patients were evaluated for a median of 44 months. 8/102 (8%) had positive cultures...

We present a case of gluteal muscle strain with hematoma formation, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) superinfection, leading to acute GCS, rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury. This combination of diagnoses has not been reported in the literature. A 36-year-old Caucasian male presented with buttock pain, swelling and fever after lifting weights. Gluteal compartment pressure was markedly elevated compared with the contralateral side. Investigations revealed elevated white blood cell, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, creatine kinase, creatinine and lactic acid. Urinalysis was consistent...
