Impact of the Type of Analgesic Therapy on Postsurgical Complications of Patients with Kidney Cancer Undergoing Nephrectomy.

CONCLUSION: The use of NSAIDs was not related to acute kidney injury, postsurgical complications, or prolonged hospital stay in patients with renal cancer undergoing nephrectomy. PMID: 31715614 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Most randomized clinical trials (RCTs) assessing the effects of initial anti-infective periodontal therapies use surrogate outcomes as primary outcome variables, such as mean changes in probing depth (PD) or in clinical attachment. However, these parameters do not reflect...

CONCLUSIONS: Non-surgical periodontal therapy was effective during the first 18 months, but periodontal conditions were worse at 48 months after therapy. The distal sites of abutment teeth with direct retainers presented the worst periodontal conditions. PMID: 32224546 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Zhou S, Wei J, Wang Y, Liu X Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide. Despite clinical advances, the survival rate of patients with HCC remains low, as most patients are diagnosed with HCC when they are already at the advanced stage. Certain circular RNAs (circRNAs) are closely associated with the development of liver cancer. In the present study, a circRNA array was performed to screen differentially expressed circRNAs in HCC tissues. The further analysis focused on the newly identified circRNA_101237, the host gene of which, cyclin-dependent kin...

Authors: Li L, Zheng Y, Zheng Q, Jiang J Abstract The present study aimed to investigate the antiproliferative effect of embryonic stem cell-conditioned medium (ESC-CM) on the mouse liver cancer Hepa1-6 cells in vitro. Furthermore, in order to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanism, the microRNAs (miRNAs) in ESC-CM associated with the inhibition of Hepa1-6 proliferation were identified. Following the co-culture of ESC-CM and Hepa1-6 in Transwell chambers, the proliferation, cell cycle, apoptosis and associated protein expression were determined in Hepal-6 cells. Moreover, miRNA array analysis was employed to ...

Conclusions: Older adults who begin using cannabis are likely using for what they perceive to be medicinal purposes for a range of issues. However, they receive minimal guidance from their family physicians and instead obtain information from non-clinician sources.Clinical implications: Cannabis screening should be included in geriatric assessments and medicine reconciliation. Continuing education for clinicians needs to address knowledge gaps about cannabis use among older adults. PMID: 32223535 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusions: Continuing shifts in society's cultural landscape, ongoing emphasis on value versus volume, and other industry fiscal imperatives continue to evoke an evolution in end-of-life care. The attainment of successful outcomes by professional case managers with those populations will be dependent on awareness and comprehension of regulations, legislation, and reimbursement; the influences of ongoing industry trends; availability of emerging resources; and ongoing technological advances. Ethical excellence remains at the core of case management across the interprofessional workforce and the transitions of care. Imp...

We report here on a 47-year-old male patient who presented to the emergency room with acute abdominal pain. He had undergone radical nephrectomy 2 years previously due to left RCC. The abdominal CT scan revealed enhanced masses with the " target " sign that suggested enteric intussusceptions in the jejunum. Eight pedunculated masses within the small intestinal lumen led to intussusceptions at 30 and 150 cm distal to Treitz ligament. Three segmental resections of the small intestine and functional end to end anastomosis were done. The patient recovered uneventfully from this operation. To the best of our knowledge...
