Study Design and Cohort Comparability in a Study of Major Cardiovascular Events in New Users of Prucalopride Versus Polyethylene Glycol 3350

ConclusionsMatching, trimming, and PS stratification yielded comparable cohorts in four of five data sources. Use of these methods could not achieve balance for key covariates within the German cohort, likely due to reimbursement differences in Germany.

There are a few number of comparative studies between duloxetine and pregabalin in the treatment of neuropathic pain from Turkey and as well as we know this is the first study comparing these treatments in lung cancer patients. Our aim is to show the efficacy of duloxetine and pregabalin and compare their efficacy in neuropathic pain of lung cancer patients. AbstractIntroductionNeuropathic pain occurs in 1% of the population and is difficult to manage. This chronic pain causes psychological distress and impacts patient's quality of life, especially in cancer patients. The aim of this study was to show and compare the effic...

Opinion statementSo far, opioids have been successfully used to reduce cancer pain in patients in order to improve their quality of life. However, the use of opioids leads to numerous side effects such as constipation, drowsiness, nausea, itching, increased sweating and hormonal changes. In this review, we described the action of opioids in several molecular pathways significant for maintenance of the intestinal homeostasis including the impact on the intestinal epithelium integrity, changes in microbiome composition, modulation of the immune system or induction of apoptosis and inhibition of angiogenesis. We summed up the...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis review was undertaken to survey recent literature for research reports and comprehensive clinical reviews addressing the pharmacologic management of nausea and vomiting (N&V) in advanced cancer. The goal was to integrate findings in a comprehensive article that incorporates palliative care concepts into antiemetic treatment.Recent FindingsThere are few published studies of N&V in advanced cancer; such research may be limited by the multicausal nature of N&V and participant burden to patients with life-limiting disease. Most articles are written by oncologists who also specialize in palliative ...

CONCLUSIONS: OIC was found in almost all evaluations of weak or strong opioidusers (97 percent); moderate to severe OIC was found in 72 percent of the evaluations. Cancer patients were associated with severe constipation. Macrogol was superior to other laxatives. In our experience, macrogol relieved constipation in those on the combination of oxycodone and naloxone and in those on fentanyl patches. Lactulose and glycerol suppositories were associated with severe constipation. PMID: 31849029 [PubMed - in process]

ConclusionThis review highlights the traditional uses, phytochemistry and pharmacological properties of the few studied taxa of the genus Tragopogon. Some of the reviewed papers were not of an appropriate methodological standard. For instance, phytochemical profiles were not determined, and the fundamental requirements of the pharmacological properties were not defined such as including appropriate positive and negative controls, and calculating the MIC values. Furthermore, these studies did not provide an in depth evaluation of bioactivity of the extracts and the isolated compounds or in vivo experiments which could indic...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis paper seeks to highlight GI motility disorders that are frequently present in patients with a malignancy. GI dysmotility can occur due to the cancer itself or as a consequence of medical and surgical treatments. Often, symptoms are nonspecific and the diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion. The goal of the paper is to review the common motility problems seen in patients with cancer, their clinical manifestations, and options for management.Recent FindingsStudies show that newer endoscopy techniques such as endoscopic mucosal dissection can cause esophageal dysmotility. Opioid-induced con...
