The objective of this study was the evaluation of Hawthorn and Rosemary methanol extracts as preventive treatment in alcoholic liver disease (ALD). ALD rat model was used to measure serum hepatic enzyme levels (AST, ALT, γ-GT and ACP), total bilirubin, liver glycogen, lipid peroxidation, total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and serum lipid profile (total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and HDL) as well as histopathological analysis in hepatic tissues was recorder. Phytotreatments showed preventive effect, decreasing AST, γ-GT, lipid peroxidation and bilirubin indictors while TAC and liver glycogen stores increase. ...

KoniorAbstractElasticity of biological systems is considered to be an important property that might be related to functional or pathological changes. Therefore, careful study and detailed understanding of cell and tissue elasticity is crucial for correct description of their functioning. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a powerful technique, which allows for determination of the physical properties, such as elasticity, of soft-matter systems in nano-scale. An important step in AFM elasticity studies is a p...

Citrin deficiency is characterized by 1) neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis caused by citrin deficiency (NICCD); 2) adaptation/compensation stage with unique food preference from childhood to adulthood; and 3) CTLN2. The treatment of NICCD aims to prevent the progression of cholestasis, and it i...

ConclusionsThere was heterogeneity regarding ESBL colonization rates in different continents. The pooled prevalence rate was higher in Africa compared to other areas. Given that the highest rate was observed in African studies, considering implementing screening efforts for ESBL colonization during pregnancy may be justified.

Authors: López-Sánchez GN, Dóminguez-Pérez M, Uribe M, Nuño-Lámbarri N Abstract Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a life-threatening condition characterized by a rapid deterioration of previously well-compensated chronic liver diseases. One of the main obstacles in ACLF is the lack of knowledge of the pathogenesis and specific broad-spectrum treatments. An excessive systemic inflammatory response has been proposed to explain the pathogenesis of ACLF; this hypothesis involves stellate cells, which are implicated in many liver homeostatic functions that include vitamin...
