Maternal Risk Factors and Perinatal Characteristics in Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia: A Nationwide Population-Based Study

Conclusions: Pregestational hypertension is associated with an increased risk of giving birth to a baby with CDH, but no association was observed in pregnancies developing preeclampsia and the occurrence of CDH.Fetal Diagn Ther

CONCLUSION: Arterial hypertension and elevated diastolic blood pressure are associated with a risk for AS requiring surgery in subjects below 60 years of age. Strict blood pressure control in this group is strongly advocated to avoid other cardiovascular diseases correlated to hypertension. If hypertension and elevated diastolic blood pressure are risk factors for developing AS requiring surgery need further investigations. Notably, elevated fasting glucose levels were related to AS requiring surgery in older adults without concomitant CAD. PMID: 31109205 [PubMed - in process]

Objective: Non-dipper hypertension (HT) confers greater risk compared with dipper hypertension. Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) recently emerged as a novel and independent marker of cardiovascular disease, both in diagnostic and prognostic scopes. Our aim was to evaluate the relationship of circadian blood pressure (BP) pattern with serum GDF-15 level in newly diagnosed HT patients without left ventricular hypertrophy. Subjects and Methods: Newly diagnosed non-dipper (n = 66) and dipper (n = 60) HT patients were selected according to 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). Healthy normotensive subjec...

Authors: Watkins L, O'Dwyer M, Shankar R Abstract INTRODUCTION: Epilepsy treatment in older people requires specific consideration owing to more physical co-morbidities, the risk of drug-to-drug interactions through polypharmacy, and differences in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. There are many 'newer' antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) widely used for various seizure types and seizure disorders. However, there is limited specific evidence for the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of these treatments in the elderly population. Areas covered: This review summarises the current most robust evidence available for the ...

This study compares the effects of rFSH only, rLH + rFSH, and HMG + rFSH administration on in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes for patients in three different yearly follow-up cycles. Material and methods: This retrospective, single-center cohort study was conducted from January 2001 to June 2016 at Istanbul Memorial Hospital, Artificial Reproductive Technology Center. From a total of 27,024 IVF cycles in women aged 18 to 45 years (17,536 rFSH only; 2147 rLH + rFSH; 7341 HMG + rFSH), the results of 2,147 cycles receiving a treatment of rLH + rFSH over the 3-year evaluation and 2,081 total cycles in which rLH + rFSH w...

Conclusions: The IVF singleton pregnancies have an increased risk of adverse perinatal outcome, among which prematurity remains the greatest problem. Therefore, they should be managed as high risk not only due to psychological reasons. PMID: 31110532 [PubMed]

Authors: Grzelak T, Wedrychowicz A, Grupinska J, Pelczynska M, Sperling M, Mikulska AA, Naughton V, Czyzewska K Abstract Introduction: The aim of our study was to determine the relationship between neuropeptide B (NPB), neuropeptide W (NPW), nutritional and antioxidant status and selected fat- and bone-derived factors in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) treated using pens (T1DM pen group) or insulin pumps (T1DM pump group) in order to investigate the potential role of NPB and NPW in the clinical outcomes of T1DM. Material and methods: Fifty-eight patients with T1DM and twenty-five healthy controls (CONTR) partic...

Authors: Wierzba W, Pinkas J, Karnafel W, Dziemidok P, Jawień A, Śliwczynski A Abstract Introduction: There are reports that diabetes mellitus reduces the risk of aortic aneurysms and many reports that diabetes mellitus reduces the risk of abdominal aortic aneurysms. In earlier years there were also studies that did not demonstrate any effects of diabetes on the rate of aortic aneurysms. Material and methods: For the year 2012, between 1 January and 31 December, reports for services regarding treatment for aortic aneurysms were found. At the same time, the reports for services associated with diabetes with th...
