Rutin-loaded zein gel as a green biocompatible formulation for wound healing application
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 May 3:132071. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.132071. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWound healing is a challenging clinical problem and efficient wound management is essential to prevent infection. This is best done by utilizing biocompatible materials in order to complete the healing in a rapid manner, with functional and esthetic outcomes. In this context, the zein protein fulfills the criteria of the ideal wound dressing which include non-toxicity and non-inflammatory stimulation. Zein gels containing rutin were prepared without any chemical refinement or addition of gelling agents in order to obt...

Resolution of necrotizing cellulitis in a dog using basic wound management
Can Vet J. 2024 May;65(5):504-506.ABSTRACTAn 8-month-old intact male golden retriever dog was seen as a case requiring urgent attention 2 d after an altercation with a cat. The dog was febrile, anorexic, and reluctant to move. There was soft-tissue swelling on the left ventral abdomen that progressed to necrotizing cellulitis. Despite the severity of the wound, client financial constraints necessitated management on a low-cost, outpatient basis using empirical antibiotics and raw-honey bandages. The wound resolved fully in 5 wk.PMID:38694733 | PMC:PMC11017930 (Source: The Canadian Veterinary Journal)

Kirigami-inspired artificial spidroin microneedles for wound patches
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 23:131838. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131838. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIntelligent wound management has important potential for promoting the recovery of chronic wounds caused by diabetes. Here, inspired by the field of kirigami, smart patterned high-stretch microneedle dressings (KPMDs) based on gene-modified spider silk proteins were developed to achieve sensitive biochemical and physiological sensing. The spider silk protein (spidroin) has excellent tensile properties, ductility, toughness and biocompatibility. Notably, the kirigami method-prepared kirigami structure of the spidroin ...
