Thoracodorsal artery injury after tube thoracostomy: A case report
Tube thoracostomy is rarely associated with serious bleeding complications. Although intercostal artery injury is a well-known bleeding complication, other vascular injuries in the chest wall have only rarely been reported. (Source: The Journal of Emergency Medicine)

Routine Chest Radiography After Thoracostomy Tube Removal and During Postoperative Follow-Up is Not Necessary After Lung Resection
The need for routine chest radiography (CXR) following chest tube removal after elective pulmonary resection may be unnecessary in most patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the safety of eliminating routine CXR in these patients. (Source: The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Observation, aspiration, or tube-thoracostomy for primary spontaneous pneumothorax: A systematic review, meta-analysis and cost-utility analysis
Chest. 2023 May 18:S0012-3692(23)00756-0. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.05.017. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) has several commonly used management strategies: observation, aspiration, and chest tube (CT). Economic modelling of pooled data comparing techniques has not been performed.RESEARCH QUESTION: Based on studies from the past 20 years, approach to management of PSP delivers the highest utility?STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A systematic review of PSP management strategies (observation, aspiration or CT) was conducted in Medline and EMBASE from January 1, 2000 to April 10, 2020...

Are Chest Radiographs or Ultrasound More Accurate in Predicting a Pneumothorax or Need for a Thoracostomy Tube in Trauma Patients?
DISCUSSION: At our institution, eFAST CUS was superior to CXR for diagnosing the presence of a PTX and predicting the need for a thoracostomy tube. However, neither test is accurate enough to diagnose a PTX nor predict if the patient will require a thoracostomy tube. Based on the specificity of both tests, a negative CXR or eFAST means there is a high probability that the patient does not have a PTX and will not need a chest tube.PMID:37171252 | DOI:10.1177/00031348231175105 (Source: The American Surgeon)

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia with gastric perforation in adult: Intrathoracic gastric perforation
In this study, we reported our case that we operated for intrathoracic gastric perforation with congenital diaphragmatic defect. When the patient admitted to the hospital, he had an atypical abdominal pain, significant back pain, and suspicious respiratory complaints. Radiological imaging showed that the stomach and the spleen were located in the left hemithorax due to diaphragmatic hernia also stomach was very dilated. Tachycardia, hypotension, and low saturation developed on the 2nd day of the patient's hospitalization. In the control imaging of the patient, in the left hemithorax, stomach was collapsed and the surroundi...
