Vaccination of Rabbits with a Cholera Conjugate Vaccine Comprising O-Specific Polysaccharide and a Recombinant Fragment of Tetanus Toxin Heavy Chain Induces Protective Immune Responses against Vibrio cholerae O1
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Oct 2:tpmd230259. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0259. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThere is a need for next-generation cholera vaccines that provide high-level and durable protection in young children in cholera-endemic areas. A cholera conjugate vaccine (CCV) is in development to address this need. This vaccine contains the O-specific polysaccharide (OSP) of Vibrio cholerae O1 conjugated via squaric acid chemistry to a recombinant fragment of the tetanus toxin heavy chain (OSP:rTTHc). This vaccine has been shown previously to be immunogenic and protective in mice and found to be safe in a recent preclinic...

Variation in Receipt of Cancer Screening and Immunizations by 10-year Life Expectancy among U.S. Adults aged 65 or Older in 2019
ConclusionsDespite the long time-to-benefit from cancer screening, in 2019 many US adults age>65 with<10-year life expectancy reported undergoing cancer screening while many did not receive immunizations with a shorter time-to-benefit. Interventions to improve individualization of preventive care based on older adults ’ life expectancy may improve care of older adults. (Source: Journal of General Internal Medicine)

Immunization in the Eastern Mediterranean Region: some signs of post-COVID-19 recovery, but more work ahead
East Mediterr Health J. 2023 Sep 9;29(9):681-683. doi: 10.26719/2023.29.9.681.ABSTRACTEvery year, WHO and UNICEF estimate the immunization coverage for 195 Member States, based on reported data and independent coverage surveys (1,2). These estimates indicate progress in reaching children with life-saving vaccines while identifying coverage gaps (3). The 2022 estimates were much awaited, given that the COVID-19 pandemic caused a setback in coverage (1). Overall, there are encouraging signs of recovery in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). For example, coverage of the third dose diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus containi...
