Giant bilateral prepubertal-type teratomas in a postpubertal patient: An illustrative case and review of the literature
AbstractPrepubertal-type teratomas are uncommon, especially in postpubertal male patients. We document a case of a 28-year-old man with a lifelong history of bilateral testicular masses who presented with scrotal fistulas and no clinical evidence of extratesticular disease. Bilateral radical orchiectomies demonstrated large bilateral solid and cystic masses that contained grossly visible hairs. Microscopically, both tumors consisted of pure teratomas comprising a mixture of mature tissues derived from the three embryonic layers. Germ cell neoplasia in situ was not identified, and fluorescence in situ hybridization studies ...

En bloc resection of an extremely giant mediastinal immature teratoma with somatic-type malignancy: A case report with a brief review of the literature
Clin Case Rep. 2023 Dec 28;12(1):e8344. doi: 10.1002/ccr3.8344. eCollection 2024 Jan.ABSTRACTPrimary mediastinum immature teratoma with somatic-type malignant transformation (SM) is extremely rare, and the clinical prognosis is poor. Immature teratoma with SM is difficult to eradicate by chemotherapy due to poor sensitivity; therefore, surgical resection is recommended whenever possible because it may offer better survival.PMID:38161647 | PMC:PMC10753629 | DOI:10.1002/ccr3.8344 (Source: Clinical Lung Cancer)

En bloc resection of an extremely giant mediastinal immature teratoma with somatic ‐type malignancy: A case report with a brief review of the literature
A large mass (approximately 21.6  × 12.3 × 105 cm3) in the anterior mediastinum with a well-defined margin and the important structures in the mediastinum were compressed and surrounded by the tumor. Then the en bloc resection of the large solid tumor with an intact capsule via a median sternotomy was conducted. Key Clinical MessagePrimary mediastinum immature teratoma with somatic-type malignant transformation (SM) is extremely rare, and the clinical prognosis is poor. Immature teratoma with SM is difficult to eradicate by chemotherapy due to poor sensitivity; therefore, surgical resection is recommended wheneve...

MRI findings of malignant transformation arising from mature cystic teratoma of the ovary: comparison with benign mature cystic teratoma
ConclusionCompared with BMCT, MT-MCT demonstrated a larger maximum diameter, lower occupancy rate of fat components, and sessile solid components. The characteristic configuration of solid components was endophytic or exophytic sessile in MT-MCT and endophytic papillary in BMCT. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor encephalitis: mimicker of lupus and multiple sclerosis
Reumatismo. 2023 Dec 19;75(4). doi: 10.4081/reumatismo.2023.1598.ABSTRACTAnti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor encephalitis (NMDARE) is a B-cell-mediated autoimmune encephalitis with wide non-specific symptoms like acute-onset psychiatric or neurological ones mimicking various other conditions. A careful history and appropriate workup, including cerebrospinal fluid analysis for anti-NMDAR antibodies, imaging, and electroencephalogram, should be conducted, considering all differential diagnoses that can mimic its presentation. Combination therapy with high-dose steroids, plasma exchange, or immunoglobulin therapy has been show...
